About the Organisation

Urgent Action Fund–Africa (UAF-Africa) is a feminist, women’s human rights Pan-African organisation registered in Kenya and Zimbabwe. Operating as a virtual organisation, it has a presence across Africa’s regions, including North, East, Southern, and Central Africa.

The organisation provides rapid response funding to support time-sensitive and innovative initiatives that promote women’s agency in areas such as:

  • Democratic governance
  • Economic and environmental justice
  • Climate justice
  • Natural resource governance
  • Conflict transformation

Position Overview

The Feminist Knowledge Leadership (FKL) Assistant supports the coordination and implementation of feminist knowledge production, research, learning, documentation, and monitoring activities.

The role contributes to the implementation of the organisation’s Knowledge Leadership Strategy and supports workstreams such as:

  • Research and documentation
  • Learning product development
  • Registry partnership coordination
  • Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL)
  • Feminist Republik platform and Festival processes

Key Responsibilities

Feminist Knowledge Production & Research Support

  • Coordinate feminist research and knowledge production processes
  • Support development of research methodologies, terms of reference, and frameworks
  • Provide editorial and drafting support for reports, publications, and analyses
  • Conduct desk research, literature reviews, and stakeholder mapping
  • Document and synthesise feminist organising practices and trends

Feminist Republik Learning & Documentation

  • Coordinate documentation for Feminist Republik Festival and related events
  • Facilitate interviews, focus groups, and learning dialogues
  • Prepare synthesis notes, reports, and impact stories
  • Ensure documentation aligns with feminist principles of care, consent, and dignity

Registry Partnership Support

  • Manage communication and engagement with partner organisations
  • Maintain partnership documentation and MoU tracking systems
  • Conduct quality checks on Registry data submissions
  • Coordinate advisory committee logistics and documentation

MEAL Support

  • Support data collection, extraction, and reporting processes
  • Maintain accurate data entry and reporting systems
  • Assist with data analysis, trend monitoring, and organisational learning
  • Coordinate internal knowledge-sharing processes

Festival & Convenings Support

  • Coordinate logistics for events and convenings
  • Support concept development, agenda setting, and session planning
  • Liaise with facilitators, participants, and service providers
  • Assist with event documentation and reporting

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following fields:
    • Women’s Studies
    • Gender Studies
    • Social Sciences
    • Political Science
    • International Development
    • Law
    • Communications
    • Research
    • Related disciplines

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ relevant experience with a degree
  • Experience in at least two of the following areas:
    • Feminist research or knowledge production
    • Programme coordination
    • MEAL support
    • Documentation and learning in NGO/civil society settings
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Strong organisational and coordination abilities
  • Understanding of feminist principles and gender equality
  • Ability to work in multicultural, remote environments
  • High integrity, attention to detail, and accountability
  • Familiarity with data management and reporting systems
  • Commitment to feminist values, collective care, and social justice

Work Environment

  • Remote regional position within Africa
  • May require national and regional travel
