An international beef producer is seeking a Farm Manager to manage all operations at a current farm in Lesotho from where exports will be managed, by developing and implementing production, operational, quality and logistic systems, and ensuring relationships with government bodies and partner producers.

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • Must have a tertiary agricultural qualification – an additional business qualification would be an added advantage
  • 15+ years’ experience in managing a feedlot and irrigation farm is essential
  • Must have commercial experience, ideally in the agricultural industry
  • The ability to communicate at Boardroom level (Government of Lesotho, Ambassador of Lesotho to the EU, Lesotho National Development Corporation)
  • Must be able to work remotely and be comfortable with working far from civilization.
  • Above-average communication skills, specifically in English and Afrikaans, with the ability to interface with internal and external stakeholders of all levels, including farmers, will be required

 
The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Managing production and processing facilities.
  • Managing all farming operations including, but not limited to staff management (100+ staff members), facility and equipment maintenance, irrigation, ground maintenance, pest management etc.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with partner producers.
  • Liaising with and communicating at Boardroom level (Government of Lesotho, Ambassador of Lesotho to the EU, Lesotho National Development Corporation)
  • Developing and implementing quality systems and operational systems.
  • Executing on plans set forth by Management Partners in order to meet Key Performance Indicator’s (KPI’s).
  • Monitoring and executing tasks within the parameters of the budget.
  • Identifying and implementing relevant growing techniques, equipment and process improvements, changes and/or replacements to improve safety, quality or efficiencies.
  • Following, implementing and enforcing all human and food safety policies and practices with employees, including Global Gap and HACCP, while meeting all internal company and customer quality standards.
  • Managing staff to achieve targets in relation to timing, efficiency and resource use.
  • Ensure the correct operation of machinery and farm equipment.
  • Identifying issues and assisting in developing plans to improve the farm and irrigation operations.
  • Developing budgets and performing general business management.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and resource utilisation.
  • Contributing to a highly productive team environment that capitalises on diverse working styles, skills and knowledge for the benefit of the farm and the organisation.

Salary package is highly negotiable depending on experience gained
