FARM ATTENDANT

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the post of Farm Attendant.

Qualifications and Requirements
 Minimum qualification requirement is COSC or LGSCE. Experience of working in a similar position will also be an added advantage.
 Able to communicate in Sesotho and English.
 Able to work for long and irregular working, starting early and including evenings and weekends.
 Able to work on your own and also as part of a team
 Confident about handling animals
 Careful, when working with machinery
 Physically fit with good stamina
 Experience of working in a similar position will also be an added advantage.

Duties and responsibilities:
1) Clean kraals, stalls, pens and equipment.
2) Examine animals and report to the farm manager signs of estrus, calving, illness, injury and or disease.

3) Groom, clip, trim, dock tails and shear sheep and goats to collect wool and mohair.
4) Herd livestock to pastures for grazing or to scales, trucks, or other enclosures.
5) Mark livestock to identify ownership using tags and notches.
6) Milk animals such as cows and goats by hand or using milking machines.
7) Collect, inspect, clean and pack eggs in cartons/trays.
8) Mix feed in prescribed portions as directed by the Farm Manager.
9) Feed and water livestock; and monitor food and water supplies.
10) Plant, cultivate and harvest feed grain and fodder crops for stock.
11) Perform any other duties as required.

Remuneration
The University offers competitive salaries and other benefits commensurate to qualifications and experience.

Contract
The appointment is on permanent and pensionable basis for locals or fixed term contract for non-nationals.
