To develop, establish and maintain a comprehensive information service to the Faculty of Humanities, including teaching and research support.

Responsibilities:

  • To manage the Library’s services and staff in support of the Faculty of Humanities’ teaching programmes and research needs
  • To liaise and collaborate with the Faculty to provide optimum service and to ensure excellent lines of communication with Faculty staff and students
  • To take a leadership role in providing information and research services of a high standard to the staff and students of the Faculty and members of the University
  • To take responsibility for the collection development
  • To oversee and participate in the library’s intensive training programmes and
  • To maintain an appropriate library environment conducive to study and research in a leading academic institution.

The above responsibilities will be performed within the University’s broad initiatives of the 4IR.

  • Honours degree in Information Science or an equivalent
  • 5 years’ experience in an academic or special library

Knowledge and experience of:

  • Information resources in various formats, and the retrieval thereof
  • Information training, presentation and evaluation of methods and techniques
  • Marketing methods and procedures
  • Research processes and its methodologies
  • Manage and operate library systems, various social media, mobile and other device applications
  • Microsoft packages

Recommendations:

  • Knowledge and experience of working of bibliometrics
  • Au fait with research data management
