Based in Cape Town, The Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation seeks to fill the following vacancy:

Exhibition and Archive Manager

The Exhibition and Archive Manager will manage the effective operation of the permanent exhibition to maximise showcasing of the Arch’s rich legacy and archives for all audiences. He/she will take responsibility for the care and management of permanent collections of materials and information in the Foundation’s archives and allow others to discover it.

Key Performance Areas include:
Ensuring the smooth day to day operation of the exhibition
Cataloguing, preserving and managing the Foundation’s archives
Managing all exhibition personnel to ensure the exhibition is run professionally
Managing relationships with key stakeholders and potential partners around access to the exhibition
Developing promotional and educational materials for a variety of audiences
Coordinating projects and events related to the exhibition
Developing monitoring and evaluation plan and providing regular reports
The Exhibition and Archive Manager will have to fulfill the following responsibilities:
Developing standard operating procedures for the exhibition and train staff on them
Directing the day-to-day activities of the exhibition staff to ensure standards of service, cleanliness, security, etc., are adhered to at all times
Creating and maintaining accessible, retrievable computer archives and databases, incorporating current advances in electronic information storage technology
Organising archival records, compiling lists and inventories and developing classification systems to facilitate access to archival materials
Responding to requests stakeholders for exhibition tours and ensure effective scheduling of visits
Proactively identifying new and existing stakeholders and partners to invite to the exhibition for relationship building and potential future support.
Working with appropriate authorities and appropriate service providers to design content for educational materials for school children
Designing promotional materials for effective marketing of the exhibition
The Exhibition and Archive Manager must meet the following criteria:
Minimum three-year diploma or Bachelor’s degree in History/Museology or Heritage
Preferably a relevant post-graduate degree
At least 5 years’ experience in working with archives and managing exhibitions
Experience in managing staff in an exhibition environment
Responsible team player
In-depth knowledge of the legacy of Desmond Tutu and a commitment to making it accessible to the public
