POSITION DETAILS

Job Title: Executive Head Business

Reports To: Managing Director
Direct Reports: Head of Business Banking; Head of SME
Job Grade: Executive Level
Location: Maseru (Head Office)

JOB PURPOSE

The Executive Head: Business Segments is responsible for the strategic leadership, growth, profitability and overall performance of all business segments within the Bank. This role oversees the development and execution of segment-specific strategies across Corporate Banking, Commercial and Business Bank.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Commercial Strategy and Growth

  • Develops and executes Business Banking strategy to achieve revenue and profitability targets.
  • Identifies and pursues new business opportunities across Business Banking (SME, corporate, institutional, agriculture lending).
  • Drives market penetration and expansion initiatives across the commercial segment.
  • Develops sector-focused strategies for key industries, including agriculture.
  • Monitors market trends and adjusts strategy accordingly.

Sales and Relationship Management

  • Leads relationship management teams in acquiring and managing high-value SME, corporate, and institutional clients.
  • Leads corporate sales teams in key account management and wholesale client acquisition.
  • Strengthens and maintains strategic relationships with corporate and institutional clients and partnership channels.
  • Drives cross-selling of Bank products and services across the commercial client base.
  • Establishes strong pipelines and monitors sales performance.

Portfolio and Credit Oversight

  • Oversees management of Business Banking and Corporate Sales portfolios, including deposits and agric lending.
  • Monitors portfolio performance, including non-performing loans.
  • Provides oversight on credit approvals within delegated authority.
  • Collaborates with Risk and the Executive Head Credit to maintain sound credit origination practices, noting that credit origination is a first-line commercial function.

Product Development and Pricing

  • Leads the development and enhancement of Business Banking products.
  • Ensures products are aligned with market demands and customer needs.
  • Drives pricing strategies to achieve competitiveness and profitability.
  • Monitors product performance and introduces innovations where necessary.

Performance Management

  • Sets and monitors performance targets for Business Banking.
  • Implements performance management frameworks aligned to the Bank’s scorecard.
  • Monitors financial performance and takes corrective action where required.

Stakeholder Management

  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, regulators, and strategic and partnership channels.
  • Represents the Bank in commercial and industry forums.
  • Collaborates with internal departments (Retail, Risk, Finance, Operations) to deliver integrated solutions.

Leadership and People Management

  • Provides strategic leadership to Business Banking.
  • Develops talent pipelines and succession plans.
  • Drives a high-performance culture through coaching and mentoring.
  • Ensures high levels of employee engagement and retention.

Governance, Risk and Compliance

  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Maintains sound risk management practices within Business Banking.
  • Addresses audit findings and ensures timely resolution.
  • Promotes ethical business conduct and strong governance standards.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Achievement of revenue and sales targets across Business Banking.
  • Growth in Business Banking portfolio and market share.
  • Profitability and cost efficiency across the commercial cluster.
  • Service excellence and client satisfaction.
  • Quality of the loan book and credit risk management outcomes.

  • Compliance with regulatory and internal audit standards.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Master`s Degree in Finance, Economics or Business Administration.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Business, Commercial or Corporate Banking.
  • At least 10 years in a senior leadership role, in business/corporate/commercial banking.
  • Proven track record in driving revenue growth and managing client portfolios.
  • Strong understanding of financial markets, credit risk, and banking products.
  • Experience in strategy development and execution.
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder and relationship management at senior level.
  • Prior experience at Executive Committee (ExCo) level is an added advantage.
