Evaporator Operator ( P14 )

Sappi Stanger Mill requires an Evaps Operator to operate evaporators efficiently so that optimum production rate is maintained on a continuous basis and downtime is minimised.

The main responsibilities of this job are:

Operations

  • Liaise with previous Shift Operators during shift change over to ensure continuous productivity
  • Inspects computer log, check plant outside for any defects or abnormalities and logs it on check sheet and shares information on shift change over
  • Update computer log sheets and inspect plant outside every two hours
  • Informs Boilers when any part of plant shuts down or starts up
  • Test liquor samples for solids every two hours
  • Inspects and ensures adequate supply of water is available at cooling towers
  • Inspects black liquor sump and level of liquor lagoon every two hours
  • Stands in for Reactor Operator when said Operator is out on plant inspection
  • Ensures proper start up and shut down procedures are adhered to conformed standard
  • Weighs all scale during high pressure cleaning and records working time and pump pressure
  • Ensures that no black liquor spills into the storm water drains
  • Responsible for loading and despatching Soda Ash whenever required

Environmental Policy and Procedures

  • Adheres to environmental policy and procedures including:
  • Reduces wastes
  • Prevents spills
  • Meets environmental targets that apply to his/her sphere of influence
  • Complies with harzardous chemical handling procedure
  • Complies with environmental legal requirement

Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ)

  • Understand and comply with all SHEQ requirements of the job
  • Carries out BBS Observations
  • Identify and take corrective action in terms of SHEQ conditions and hazards
  • Maintains a high level of good housekeeping in the workplace at all times
  • Adheres to all safety standards, ensures a high standard of housekeeping and immediately reports all unsafe acts and conditions to Foreman

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Matric + Full N2 Pulp and Paper or, NCV 3 or NQF Level 4 Paper Board
  • Minimum 3 years Pulp and Paper manufacturing experience preferred
  • Experience working in the chemical recovery section will be an added advantage
