ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY OFFICER (PATERSON BAND CU)

Letšeng seeks to engage a qualified Mosotho professional with appropriate skills and aptitude to fill the position of Environmental Sustainability Officer (Paterson Band CU).

PURPOSE: Under the direction and supervision of the Environmental Manager, the role includes developing, implementing, and evaluating programmes relating to climate change, SDG and bioremediation to reduce environmental impacts and to apply sustainability principles as defined by the SEMP.

MAIN OUTPUTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coordinate Climate Change, Carbon & Water footprint Strategy- collecting and collating data, monitoring the implementation of various activities across the mine and conducting training and awareness

• Coordinate Sustainable Development Programmes – raise awareness and training, support departments in identifying appropriate activities to implement, to meet the UN SDGs that the company subscribes to

• Implement strategies for management of Contaminants of Concern and carry out necessary investigations to remain within the prescribed limits as per developed protocols

• Participate in the process of and implementation of bioremediation plant design and construction activities

• Support the function of energy resources management which will be driven by Engineering. This role will be responsible for the environmental reporting aspects needed for corporate reporting e.g. Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) statistics

• Support the function of water resources management which will be driven by Engineering. This role will be responsible for the environmental reporting aspects needed for corporate reporting e.g. GRI statistics

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

• BSc in Environmental Science or related discipline with a minimum of three (3) years of practical and relevant work experience

• A working understanding of the principles and practices of sustainability programs, projects and policy

• Experience within the mining industry would be an advantage

REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

• Sound knowledge of environmental best practices, new innovations and environmental tools, and legislative or planning requirements that can enable the organisation to effectively achieve its sustainability and environmental goals

• Knowledge of energy efficiency, renewable energy, water management, waste management, climate adaptation and biodiversity-related activities

• The ability to utilise Microsoft office

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Registration with the Department of Environment as an Environmental Practitioner will be an added advantage

• Candidates will be required to undergo a medical examination of fitness as per the requirements
