Environmental Officer ( P13 )
Sappi Stanger Mill requires an Environmental Officer to support and contribute to the sound environmental management of the Mill to meet legislative environmental requirements and maintain certification.
This role reports in to the SHEQ Manager.
The main responsibilities of this job are:
- Contribute to the maintenance and implementation of the Mill’s Environmental Management System
- Provide technical input to environmental policies and procedures, as well as provide technical advice on their implementation.
- Maintain and update the Mill’s complaints register.
- Monitor waste disposal and maintain safe disposal certificates.
- Conduct environmental incident and complaints investigations.
- Monitor environmental aspects and impacts.
Stakeholder Liaison - Attend forum and other relevant meetings and events.
- Maintain registers and minute taking.
- Promote environmental responsibility and the Mill’s positive environmental image
- Write articles, give presentations and conduct environmental training to staff.
- Make presentations at public and Technical/SHEQ meetings.
The ideal candidate should have:
- Matric/Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science.
- A Bachelor’s degree in the relevant Environmental Management field.
- 1 to 3 years’ post qualification experience in Environmental Management.
- 1 year completed Environmental internship would be preferred.
- Computer literacy is essential (Windows and MS Office).
- SAP and Isometrix literacy is advantageous.
- ISO Standards and Auditing is preferred.
