About the Role
The Environmental Officer will play a crucial role in implementing and monitoring environmental management systems, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, and promoting environmental awareness throughout the organization.
This position requires a proactive individual with strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of environmental principles, and a commitment to sustainability and environmental protection.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain environmental management systems (EMS) in accordance with industry standards.
- Conduct Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and audits to identify potential environmental risks and ensure compliance.
- Monitor and report on environmental performance, including air quality, water quality, waste management, and biodiversity.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations and permits.
- Develop and deliver environmental training and awareness programs for employees.
- Manage and maintain environmental records and documentation.
- Investigate environmental incidents and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Consult with regulatory agencies, community groups, and other stakeholders on environmental matters.
- Develop and implement waste management and recycling programs.
- Monitor and manage the use of hazardous materials and chemicals.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of sustainability initiatives.
- Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure environmental compliance.
- Prepare environmental reports and presentations for management and regulatory bodies.
Qualifications and Skills
- Diploma/Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and standards.
- Experience in conducting EIAs and environmental audits.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and environmental monitoring software.
- Experience with data collection and analysis.
- Knowledge of waste management and recycling practices.
