Purpose of the job:
To ensure that WASCO’s activities and operations do not impact negatively on the environment.
Key Tasks:
- Facilitate the environmental and social impact assessment process for all projects within WASCO
- Ensure inclusion of the environmental management plans in contracts signed between the organization and contractors and monitor its implementation
- Develop and implement an environmental management system for WASCO
- Review and Comment on project briefs, EIAs, EISs and EMPs submitted by NES for proposed projects within the country
- Review and update WASCOs Environmental policy and develop strategies for its implementation
- Act as liason between WASCO, industries, water users and the public on pollution related incidents
- Identify point and non-point sources of pollution to raw water sources
- Investigate, report and recommend remedial actions on pollution incidents
- In collaboration with central laboratory monitor effluent from industrues
- Undertake regular inspections of water and wastewater treatment facilities, identify shortcomings and recommend remedial actions
- Develop in collaboration with central laboratory, a pollution control plan and ensure its implementation
12 Assess environmental compliance and produce regular reports.
Core Competencies:
- Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes
- Knowledge of water and wastewater quality monitoring systems
- Knowlegde of environmental impact assessment process
- Knowledge of environmental management systems specifically ISO 14000
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
Degree in Environmental Management/ Engineering or related disciplines.
At least 3 years experience in a similar role
