SUN JV (a joint venture among SINOHYDRO BUREAU 8 CO., LTD, SINOHYDRO BUREAU 14 CO., LTD, UNIK CIVIL ENGINEERING PTY LTD, and NTHANE BROTHERS PTY LTD) is the honorable contractor for the Construction of Polihali Dam and Appurtenant Works under the Lesotho Highlands Water Project – Phase II.
The project involves constructing a concrete-faced rockfill dam at Polihali, approximately 1 km downstream of the confluence of the Khubelu and Senqu (Orange) Rivers, along with a Saddle Dam and a Gravity Tunnel connecting Polihali Reservoir to Katse Reservoir.

Position: Environmental Manager – Large Dam Construction Project
Key Qualifications and Competencies
Professional Credentials:
- BSc in Environmental Management/Science or equivalent.
- MSc in Environmental Science/Management (added advantage).
- Minimum of 10 years post-qualification experience.
- Advanced certification in ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Systems.
- Registration with professional bodies in either Lesotho or South Africa.
Technical Expertise:
- Proven experience in Environmental Management Plan (EMP) Implementation.
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience in ISO 14001:2015 standard development, implementation, and auditing.
- Proven expertise in ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and ISO 10005.
- Experience in environmental database management.
- Strong background in social management reporting and documentation.
- Advanced skills in environmental impact assessment and mitigation strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee comprehensive environmental management for the large-scale dam construction project.
- Develop and implement robust environmental management protocols.
- Ensure compliance with national and international environmental standards.
- Monitor and report on Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP), Quarry Environmental Management Plan, and contract specifications.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams of environmental specialists.
- Prepare detailed environmental and social management reports.
- Manage environmental risk assessments and mitigation processes.
- Ensure adherence to the CEMP, Environmental Specification, and relevant legislation.
- Monitor construction-related environmental impacts.
- Ensure all subcontractors comply with environmental policies.
- Supervise Environmental Control Officers and Community Liaison Officers.
- Manage environmental records and reporting obligations.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities (e.g., DOE and DWA) to obtain water use permits.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced project management expertise.
- Proficiency in environmental monitoring technologies.
