What will you do?

In this position you will join our Cape Town Environment and Planning business unit on a 12 months fixed-term contract, where you will be exposed to exciting and challenging projects that will enable you to build your career path into a well-rounded and experienced specialist in Environment and Planning. You will play an integral part in a team of highly skilled specialists that ‘bring ideas to life’ for our clients.

We know the work we do is vital in assisting our world’s economic development and, it’s the technical expertise and the depth of knowledge of our people that really sets us apart. Here are the key things you will do to ‘ bring ideas to life ’:

  • Undertaking of legislated environmental permitting/ authorisation processes in terms of the National Environmental Management Act (Act 107 of 1998), as amended and the National Water Act (Act 36 of 1998).
  • Conduct full Public Participation Processes (PPP), engage with Interested and Affected Parties (I&APs) and record all required information.
  • Provide project management and project administration assistance.
  • Facilitation and coordination specialist groups / workshops to guide input into active projects.
  • Carry out Environmental Control Officer (ECO) tasks when required, including; overseeing and advising on multiple contracts to assist in implementing best environmental practice, auditing of contractor compliance to the requirements of the environmental documentation and highlight where improvements can be made, management of on-site ECO teams through mentorship and guidance and compilation and review of Method Statements.

What can you bring to the team?

Firstly, you will share our genuine passion for re-imaging engineering and science and be someone that actively pursues continuous learning to help shape the future. You will also need a BSc or BA degree in Environmental or Social Sciences (mandatory), with a minimum of 3 – 5 years’ experience gained in a consulting or operational environment. Sound experience gained in compiling Environmental Impact Assessments and Environmental Management Programmes, ECO supervision & site work, project admin assistance, project management and stakeholder engagement is required. Experience with the undertaking of Water Use Licence Applications and General Authorisations will be an advantage. The successful candidate must be mobile and available to travel as our focus includes cross-border international work.
