AQUITY’s programmatic focus areas include HIV, TB, health systems strengthening, capacity development Orphans and Vulnerable Children as well as other interventions targeting key populations.

Programme and Vacancy overview:

AQUITY Innovations NPC has been appointed by the National Department of Health to serve as one of the GLOBAL FUND TB Sub-Recipients (SRs) in South Africa. The project activities are currently being implemented at Ehlanzeni district (Mpumalanga Province) and OR Tambo district (Eastern Cape Province). As such we seek to employ the following to be placed at various health facilities:

32 Enrolled Nursing Assistants to be based in Ehlanzeni District and 21 to be based at OR Tambo District.

Remuneration: ​Will be based on the government DPSA rate for this position.

Purpose of the position:

The Enrolled Nursing Assistant (ENA) will primarily be responsible for ensuring proper screening and linkage of TB clients to care and support services according to DOH Guidelines. The ENA will ensure that all TB patients are linked to relevant facility services as well as community services. 

Key Responsibilities:
Increase and create demand for facility -based TB screening and testing services during checking of vital signs.
Ensure that all clients tested TB positive are linked for treatment initiation; and are captured into TIER.net.
Work hand in hand with TB facility health care workers in linking clients who have tested positive for TB.
Review TB registers and TIER.NET to check on those initiated into treatment, ensuring that they receive follow up-services.
Compile a list of those not yet initiated, with their contact details for follow-up and referrals to WBOTS and relevant NGOs.
Facilitate increase in isoniazid preventative treatment (IPT) for under 5 children
Identify and link patients eligible for psychosocial support.
Conduct health education to clients on TB and HIV treatment adherence, cough etiquette, monitoring and treatment side effects.
Implement approved interventions to bring those lost to follow-up back into care.
Provide health education to patients on TB, TB screening, TB/HIV co-infections, infection control, adherence and other services to facilitate referrals.
Work with the TB team to improve the quality of care, retention in care and adherence to treatment for TB patients.
Requirements:
Proof of Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
Enrolled Nursing Assistant Qualification and proof of registration with the South African Nursing Council as an Auxiliary Nurse.
Knowledge and experience in:
TB and HIV screening services;
TB and HIV tracing and linkage services;
HIV testing services and application of testing modalities;
Contact tracing and follow-up;
Referral systems and pathways as well as linkage and retention in care strategies.

Must have had some training in Basic TB, HIV, counseling and adherence counseling.
At least three (3) years’ experience working in a health facility.
Knowledge of and experience in providing patient counseling and treatment adherence support.
Experience of working with outreach teams and providing health education.
Experience with community TB screening will be an advantage.
Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
Good oral and written communication skills
Ability to manage relationships in a dynamic ad multi-layered environment
Strong organizational skills, including task and time management, ability to multi-task, establish priorities, and meet deadlines; and work productively with minimal supervision.
