Emergency Coordinator at Letšeng Diamonds

Letšeng seeks to engage a professional with appropriate skills and aptitude to fill the position of Emergency Coordinator (Paterson Band CL).

PURPOSE: To coordinate and direct emergency and preparedness and rescue activities, to coordinate and monitor the medical programme and to deliver first aid and firefighting training for Letšeng Diamond Mine.

MAIN OUTPUTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in carrying out baseline risk assessments to identify emergencies applicable to the mine and update accordingly
  • Draw an action plan based on additional controls to be implemented and submit the plans to HSE Manager for approval
  • Develop plans covering drills and emergency reactions and obtain approval from HSE Manager
  • Participate in the development and updating of emergency team procedures and ensure that the emergency team is adequately capacitated
  • Constitute a health emergency team and coordinate emergency team drills periodically
  • Ensure that emergency team members are legally appointed
  • Identify and update emergency equipment requirements and keep inventory and periodically inspect and maintain emergency equipment in serviceable conditions
  • Advise on appropriate resources to respond to emergencies and be alert at all times to respond to emergency calls whilst on site
  • Participate in the assessment of the adequateness of appropriate resources for all areas relating to inherent emergency risks and advise management accordingly
  • Maintain records and reports of drills and emergency responses and manage Corrective and Preventive Actions emanating from drills and emergency responses
  • Manage injuries and health emergencies and facilitate medical referrals
  • Assess sectional needs for first aiders and capacitate accordingly
  • Develop training material in line with the Red Cross Society and deliver the training as per the training plan/schedule using practical exercises
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training and make adjustments to courses
  • Arrange for outsourced training (first aid, fire, hazmat) and evaluate effectiveness in consultation with HSE Training Officer
  • In consultation with sectional heads draw annual emergency drills schedules and Monitor the implementation of schedules
  • Maintain a record of all hazardous chemical substances on site and maintain adequate materials to respond to environmental spills
  • Ensure users receive training on safe chemicals handling

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Advanced Life Support or Intermediate Life Support plus three years’ post-qualification working experience
  • Registration as an Emergency Care Practitioner with THE Lesotho Medical, Pharmacy and Dental Council
  • Accredited as level 1 and 2 first aid trainer
  • Code 8 Driver’s License
  • Two (2) years of relevant experience in a medical environment with an emphasis on emergency response and care

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Candidates will be required to undergo a medical examination of fitness as per the requirements
