My Vote Counts (MVC) is a non-profit that aims to improve the accountability, transparency and inclusiveness in South Africa’s political and electoral systems. They achieve their aims through research, advocacy, campaigning, popular education and strategic litigation.

MVC seeks to appoint one Electoral Systems Intern and one Communications Intern to be based in Cape Town.

Employment Type: 6-month fixed term contract, Interns will be expected to work 3 days a week.

Remuneration: This is a paid part-time position.

Responsibilities:

Assist with research on electoral reform in a bid to ensure greater accountability in our electoral system.
Assist with research on the local government electoral system exploring its advantages and challenges.
Assist with developing content (blogs, infographics, fact sheets and/or policy briefs) Assist with planning seminars, workshops and events around elections and electoral accountability.
Assist with any administrative related tasks as required.

Requirements:

Should have completed or be enrolled in an honours or masters programme in politics, public policy, law or any other related field.
Research experience is required.
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
Must display an interest in South African politics and social justice.
Must be able to take initiative, work independently and in a team.
Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or Marketing a must
Proven written articles or other content (please forward portfolio or links to your work)
The ability to come up with engaging content and ideas around the work we do
Social media experience
WordPress or other web publishing skills preferable
A keen interest in politics a must
Knowledge and or interest in advocacy advantageous
Great interpersonal skills a must
Ability to build and maintain relationships a must
Proficiency in another language other than English advantageous

Responsibilities:

Develop content plan with Communications Officer.
Develop campaign related content for website, social media and mainstream media.
Network with civil society organisations and media in and around South Africa.
Assist with planning seminars, workshops and events.
Attend meetings and events as delegated by Communications Officer or Director.
Be willing to travel outside of Cape Town.
