Overview:

Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Lesotho (BCMCFL), is the result of a public-private partnership between Baylor College of Medicine International Pediatric AIDS Initiative and the Government of Lesotho, and is a legal, non-profit/tax exempt organization registered in Lesotho. BCMCFL provides free pediatric and family-centred HIV and tuberculosis prevention, care, treatment, and support, serving thousands of children and families affected by HIV, TB, or other child health conditions. Karabo Ea Bophelo (KB) is a five-year USAID-funded activity to prevent new HIV infections and reduce vulnerability among orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in Lesotho.

BCMCFL is looking for highly qualified local candidates to fill in the following positions available under Karabo Ea Bophelo Project on a full-time, Fixed-Term Contract basis.

Duties and Responsibilities

Position Overview

Under guidance and supervision of the District Education Field Supervisor, the Educational Mentor (EM) will work closely with other schools, KB project field staff, local and community stakeholders to serve as the on-the-ground focal point for coordination and the implementation of  educational bursaries, Life skills Based Sexuality Education (LBSE) and OGAC healthy behavior modules in schools and communities. The EM will work directly with project participants (learners), AGYW and OVC and coordinate among other local stakeholders to ensure strong implementation of the project.

Key Performance Areas:

Support KB Educational program activities at the field level, including:

  • Collect enrolment and monitoring LBSE DATA in schools for all learners in grades 4 to 10
  • Collect data for recipients of OGAC and educational clubs
  • Distribute all packages for bursaries recipients
  • Undertake OGAC sessions in schools for all learners receiving LBSE
  • Undertake educational clubs sessions in communities especially targeting recipients of educational bursaries
  • Refer learners, including OVC and AGYW to appropriate services
  • Report all the data to relevant authorities  

Educational Qualifications, Work Experience and Key Competencies

• Completion of LGCSE/Form E/COSC.
• Two years’ work experience on PEPFAR Community Development Program will be an added advantage
• Participation in DREAMS would be an added advantage.
• Two years’ experience dealing with LBSE, AGYW, OVC and Education bursaries is key.
• Fluency in Sesotho and English.
• Basic computer skills would be an added advantage
• Flexibility to work after normal working hours and on weekends where necessary
