Role Description
To prepare for publication, materialor works/products to agreed quality standards and agreed deadlines and withinapproved budgetary constraints, ensuring that the text is free of grammaticalerrors, its exposition coherent and unambiguous and its referencing accurateand consistent.Publishing responsibilities
Assumeeditorial responsibility for such works/products as may be assigned to you,ensuring that they are completed for publication in accordance with the agreed publishingschedule and within budgetPrepareor help prepare project plans as required and update them as necessaryAlertthe managing editor immediately of any changes or developments that may affectthe publishing schedule, i.e. that may delay or accelerate publication, reduceor increase its cost, or result in a workload that deviates from that budgetedforHelpwith the design/creation of sample pages for new works/products as requiredConsultand negotiate with the author(s) of assigned works/products regarding anymaterial changes to such works/productsUpdate,edit, check, proofread or correct each assigned work/product in accordance withthe relevant agreed project plan, observing the conventions of the work/productconcerned provided they accord with general publishing conventions or withother acceptable LexisNexis conventionsIfthe conventions of an assigned work/product deviate from general publishingconventions or from other acceptable LexisNexis conventions, alert the managingeditor to that factCheckthe accuracy of references to legislation in assigned works/productsLiaisewith and brief service providers, whether internal or external, to ensure properand timely preparation, completion and publication of assigned works/productsEnsurethat work performed by internal or external service providers for an assignedwork/product meets agreed quality standards and conforms to the approved publishingconventions of that work/productCompilesupplementary matter (e.g. table of contents, table of cases, table ofstatutes, bulletin, control/instruction sheet, etc.) or check such matter asrequiredCheckthe correctness of the information on covers, binder mock-ups or proofs, or in marketingor associated material, as requiredCheckprinters’ proofs and advance copies of assigned works/products and of suchother works/products as the managing editor may directEnsurethat content of the printed and digital/electronic versions of assigned works/productsthat are published in print and electronic media matches or corresponds inevery material respectPerforma quality control check on such works/products as the managing editor maydirectWhenrequired, analyse competitor works/products with a view to suggesting improvementsto LexisNexis works/products
Whenrequired, perform any of the above or other related functions in respect withthe works/products of other departmentsAdministrativeMonitorproduction costs of assigned works/products, ensuring thatthey do not exceedthe budget allocated to those works/productsEnsure that invoices for any work done on an assigned work/product are submitted in good time and are accurate and completeComplete a pre-press pass sheet for each assigned work/product before releasing the latter for publicationInform Electronic Publishing that an assigned work/product that is to be published in electronic or digital format has been released for publication and supply Electronic Publishing with the relevant files or with access to those filesAttend promptly to queries relating to an assigned work/productPrepare or update training manuals when required
