We have an excellent opportunity for an Economic Officer to join our Economic Youth and Sustainable Development Directorate.

Working with the Adviser and Head of the Economic Policy and Small States Section, the Economic Officer will support implementation and reporting of work related to the economic development of Commonwealth developing countries and small states.

Thematic areas include: economic vulnerability and building the economic resilience of small states; policy analysis and support on the economic development of small states; preparation of the annual Small States Economic Review and Basic Statistics; and consultations on small states concerns; Fintech and its application to development and particularly the SDGs; disaster finance; and diaspora finance.

S/he will be required to progress projects and publications, prepare briefings and materials for public outreach, research specific topics and search for data, liaise with governments and contacts in international organisations, and represent the Commonwealth Secretariat at technical meetings in relevant areas.

To be considered, you will need to have a Masters’ degree in economics; development economics or a related field. You will also need to have five years’ policy experience, at national and international levels, and experience with preparing macroeconomic reports and research papers. Good knowledge of Commonwealth small states and international economic development policy, including the SDGs, Paris Climate Change agenda and the UNISDR Disaster Risk Reduction agendas is desirable.
