International trade is a crucial driver of growth, development and prosperity. To achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), developing countries need an enabling global trading environment that both supports and enhances their participation in world trade.

We have an outstanding opportunity for an Economic Adviser in our Trade, Oceans and Natural Resources Directorate to support our member countries with their trade-led inclusive growth and sustainable development. We undertake cutting-edge research and analysis to inform policymaking on various issues, from monitoring international trade-related commitments to LDCs and the implications of graduation to building trade resilience to climate change and natural disasters.

Reporting to the Head of the International Trade Policy Section, the Economic Adviser will monitor and analyse key trade-related developments and develop advice and recommendations to benefit Commonwealth members, especially small states, LDCs and countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. The post-holder will also be responsible for taking forward the Section’s applied trade policy work in selected areas and disseminating the findings strategically for maximum impact.

To be considered, you will need to have a Post-Graduate degree in Economics/International Economics with a strong applied policy research component and sound quantitative skills. Also required are: A minimum of seven years’ experience in the areas of trade policy analysis. Experience in managing analytical and advocacy projects and familiarity with key trade-related developments and current debates on trade, development and the SDGs at the multilateral level.
