Job Summary

The Driver / Logistics Assistant is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and efficient driving and logistical support to AHF Lesotho operations. The position supports the transportation of staff, medical supplies, program materials, and official documents while ensuring proper vehicle management, compliance with organizational policies, and adherence to safety and road regulations.

The role also provides logistical and administrative support to the Operations Department, including handling deliveries, assisting with distribution of goods, and supporting office and field activities. The Driver / Logistics Assistant plays a critical role in ensuring smooth daily operations and timely program implementation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drives guests from the airport and/or from any other point of departure and provides a welcome talk during the trip. Also returns departing guests to the airport as assigned.
  • Maintains safety standards during the transportation of laboratory specimens and medicines.
  • Ensures timely transportation of laboratory specimens from the AHF ART Clinic to the National Reference Laboratory.
  • Transports laboratory results from NRL to the Clinic in a timely and confidential manner.
  • Transports staff and partners to the HTS outreaches and back, in all 10 districts of Lesotho. This will sometimes mean sleeping over in the field for 2 or more nights a week.
  • Maintains vehicle logbook, request fuel, and account for all mileage and fuel consumption/costs.
  • Does not permit anyone to drive the vehicle, unless authorized to do so.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the vehicle, including daily cleaning inside and twice weekly (minimum) car wash.
  • Maintains vehicle in good mechanical order, including oil and water, and completes and submits weekly log sheets to support this.
  • Report repair needs and immediately arrange replacements with the Operations Officer.
  • Ensure that the vehicle under his/her care is secured from loss or damage at all times.
  • Ensure that the vehicle is currently licensed.
  • Drives safely and responsibly at all times, must be knowledgeable about, and comply with Lesotho driving /traffic and parking rules and regulations.
  • Never drive the vehicle under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, and observe the non-smoking rule in the vehicle at all times. Observe the NO TAKING/MAKING PHONE CALLS WHILE DRIVING rule. (must first park on the roadside to answer/make phone calls)
  • Performs other duties as assigned by their supervisor.

Education and Experience

  • C.O.S.C High School Certificate or Form E.
  • Possession of a Driver’s License (minimum Code 10) for at least 5 years.
  • Previous driving employment, at least 5 years uninterrupted.
  • Ability to read and write English, analyze, and interpret common correspondence and communications.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to team members clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work under pressure and after hours.
  • Ability to support and cope (physically and emotionally) in the transportation of critically ill patients.
