The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organisations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy. The EU Delegation in Maseru ensures the representation of the EU to the Kingdom of Lesotho and bilateral relations in the domains of political relations, economic, trade and external assistance cooperation.

We offer a local staff post of Driver. The person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation. Upon recruitment, the successful candidate will occupy a specific job function as Driver (this job function may evolve in accordance with the needs of the Delegation). Under this job function the successful candidate will serve as a driver for the EU Delegation in Maseru and occasionally perform logistic and administrative tasks for the Delegation, under the supervision and responsibility of the Head of Administration of the EU Delegation.

The place of employment is the EU Delegation to Lesotho, located at 167 Constitution Road, Maseru West.

The person will be recruited as a Group 5 local agent. The starting basic salary is LSL 7,910.00, which is subject to income tax. We offer an attractive position in an international organisation. Selection Criteria

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Medically fit to perform the required duties;
  2. Enjoys civil rights and permits for employment under local law;
  3. Has a satisfactory knowledge of English and Sesotho (listening, reading, spoken interaction and writing);
  4. Completed secondary education;
  5. In possession of a valid driving licence;
  6. Minimum Code 8 driving licence (Code 10 driving licence is considered an advantage);
  7. Excellent knowledge of the roads in Maseru and in Lesotho in general. Knowledge of other major South African cities is an asset;
  8. Have minimum 5 years of proven driving experience as a professional driver with a clean driving record;
  9. Technical knowledge of the basic mechanical functions of vehicles;
  10. Ability to work and handle instructions in a calm manner and speedily while always showing patience and politeness when dealing with both passengers and other road users;
  11. Punctuality and reliability are a must, client-oriented and the ability to work in a team;
  12. Ability to identify users’ needs with a high sense of discretion and confidentiality;
  13. Basic computer literacy (E-mail use, Microsoft Office).

The following will be considered an asset:

  1. Previous driving experience with an Embassy or an international organisation will be considered an advantage;
  2. Professional driving training qualification is an asset (defensive driving, hijacking prevention, etc.).

The procedure

After the deadline for applications, the applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee set up for this purpose. The Selection Committee will prepare a short-list of candidates, who are considered to be the most suitable for the post on the basis of a preliminary assessment of the information provided in their application letter and the supporting documents.

The shortlisted candidate will be invited for an interview and a written test. The candidates, who pass the interview and the written test, will subsequently be invited for a driving test.
