The National University of Lesotho invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the following position.

POST NO. 2960: DOMESTIC BURSAR
DEPARTMENT: CAMPUS SERVICES

JOB SUMMARY:
The Domestic Bursar is responsible for the supervision of cleaning, catering and laundry services. S/he is also in charge of the design, procurement and sale of academic regalia for University Officers, staff and students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.1 Establish cleaning standards and procedures for cleaners and ensure adherence to these standards and procedures;
1.2 Supervise and coordinate the work of contracted cleaning and catering companies on behalf of the University;
1.3 Responsible for coaching and developing cleaners, overseeing their work activities to ensure that all University facilities including halls of residence, offices, classrooms, boardrooms and others are kept clean;
1.4 Schedule and assign specific duties to cleaners and also ensure that they are carried out expertly;
1.5 Inspect cleaning, catering and laundry equipment on a regular basis to assess when they are worn-out and due for replacement;
1.6 Order cleaning materials, detergents and curtaining, control and monitor their usage to avoid wastage and/or misuse and manage the domestic bursary store;
1.7 Order, sell and give guidelines in the design and production of academic dress and ceremonial regalia;
1.8 Ensure proper interior decoration for various occasions of the University;
1.9 Provide assistance to staff and companies under his/her supervision while they carry out their duties including disseminations of rules, regulations, organizational channels and procedures;
1.10 Ensure compliance with current health and safety regulations and best practices for facilities management with regards to catering and cleaning service provision.
1.11 Prepare and submit reports with regards to cleaning and catering activities, as well as the supply and sales of the academic regalia;
1.12 Supervise day to day activities of staff under his/her direct supervision in compliance with Human Resource policies and procedures;
1.13 Work with staff under his/her supervision to develop performance plans, provide ongoing coaching and feedback;
1.14 Perform other related duties that may be assigned from time to time.
1.15 Overseeing the catering service function

REQUIREMENTS – Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
2.1 Must have experience of leading and managing staff in the service sector, and in the management and supervision of cleaning, catering and laundry contracts and procedures;
2.2 Experience in working at senior levels for more than one immediate line manager at a time;
2.3 Must possess excellent communication skills in speaking, writing and listening;
2.4 Demonstrate an ability to plan time effectively and to organize oneself with forethought, showing meticulous attention to detail and self- management skills;
2.5 Have decision-making skills and the ability to solve problems, prioritise workload and work on own initiative;
2.6 Ability to maintain good working relationships with others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
3.1 A Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics, Hospitality Management or Facilities Management is required;
3.2 A minimum of five (5) years’ work experience in managing cleaning services in a multi-building facility in an institution of higher learning is preferred;
3.3 A minimum of three (3) years’ work experience in staff supervision and contract management is required.
3.4 Knowledge and experience in material selection, design, production and sale of academic regalia and other items are required.

The University offers salaries and other benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience.
