Applications are invited from suitably qualified local candidates for the following position tenable in the Ministry of Education and Training:
JOB TITLE: District School Extension Officer
Grade: E
Number of Positions: One (1)
Responsible To: Senior Education Officer
JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Senior Education Officer, the incumbent will:
- Implement school feeding programmes under the Free Primary Education policy
- Liaise with teachers and community leaders for support
- Implement agricultural projects in schools
- Conduct training for schools
- Monitor school feeding programmes to improve the health and nutritional status of learners
MAIN DUTIES
1. Implementation of School Feeding
1.1 Produces monthly schedules for school feeding activities and oversees implementation
1.2 Enforces school feeding guidelines for smooth operations
1.3 Coaches food handlers on hygiene and cleanliness to reduce contamination risks
1.4 Promotes full utilization of agricultural produce for nutrient supply
1.5 Collects data on school feeding for informed decision-making
1.6 Supervises distribution of take-home rations in consultation with donors/schools to support OVCs and HIV/AIDS-affected children
2. Liaison with Teachers and Community Leaders
2.1 Produces a list of OVCs in consultation with community leaders and teachers for ration allocation
2.2 Organizes meetings with teachers and community leaders to discuss school feeding issues
3. Implementation of Agricultural Projects in Schools
3.1 Sensitizes communities to participate in school projects and foster ownership
3.2 Inspects agricultural projects in schools receiving food aid for sustainability
3.3 Collects agricultural produce from schools for educational exhibitions
4. Monitoring of School Feeding Programmes
4.1 Supervises school feeding activities on a daily basis
4.2 Provides advice on areas needing improvement
4.3 Produces monthly progress reports to assess programme impact
JOB SPECIFICATION
- Diploma in Home Economics or
- Diploma in Agriculture with Education
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Report writing skills
- Computer literacy
- Communication skills
- Interpersonal skills
