Today, we are facing massive disinformation campaigns connected with COVID and the war in Ukraine. Online and offline media platforms are constantly spreading disinformation and have become tools of ‘hybrid warfare’ to confuse populations.
While governmental institutions are trying to tackle this, it is a fact that fake news are now omnipresent in our lives. Public opinion polls illustrate that a majority of people consider at least some disinformation to be true and relevant. Why is that? Why do existing protection methods fail? What steps should governments and civil society take? How can we discern what is true?
This session will tackle such questions and will provide an opportunity to deepen the conversation, also welcoming alumni and GCSP community to contribute and engage.
