We’re still a small company so in this role of Head of People (reporting to the Chief Operating Officer) the day to day will include:

  • Working with the team on attracting and retaining quality talent
  • Working with leaders on strategies that support individual, team, and company growth
  • Building strategies and executing on tactics that promote team engagement
  • Championing internal communications and helping the team adapt to change

About You

We are a global company, selling hosting services to customers throughout the world, so having experience with internet-based business will be highly regarded.

You should be someone that is detail-oriented, proactive, and has excellent organizational skills. You have the ability to make decisions quickly and communicate effectively.

You work well independently and remotely. You should be comfortable managing your own time and prioritizing your own work. We have no central physical office, we are 100% remote.

At Discourse the ability to communicate well in writing is paramount. Most of your interaction with team members will be in writing. We use our own software, Discourse, for most communication, so you should be comfortable learning to use Discourse effectively.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience with end-to-end recruiting of talent at all levels, globally and preferably in a technology company.
  • People & Culture Generalist capabilities
  • Outstanding leadership, relationship building, and influencing skills
  • A knack for implementing processes, technologies, and solutions for a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills whether it be on the phone, on instant messaging apps, video conferencing, email, or speaking in front of large groups
  • Ability to analyze people data, identify trends and develop insights
  • An overwhelming level of enthusiasm for building a great company culture

Additional Details

Recruitment

Talent Acquisition

  • Manage the recruitment process, including candidate experience and onboarding
  • Explore options such as graduate referral programs
  • Work with internal teams and hiring managers to upskill and assist with recruitment
  • Manage relationships with 3rd parties – recruiters, advertising & social platforms, recruitment industry professionals
  • Develop sourcing strategies to attract and retain those ideal candidates
  • Build out processes, measurements, and tools for the recruitment function
  • Develop reporting functions throughout the recruitment process

Workforce Planning

  • Work in collaboration with the Leadership team to plan future roles, then execute on those plans
  • Ensure that people costs are managed and reported on effectively
  • Understand the skills that will be required in the future and plan for hires accordingly
  • Work on strategies to maintain the existing culture and make that scalable internationally

Employer Branding

  • Develop and execute strategies to promote Discourse as a place to work
  • Develop brand/employment advocates internally
  • Promote and support internal personal brands

People Experience

  • Facilitate development programs across departments and manage assessment processes
  • Provide coaching as and when required
  • Ensure there is a clear strategy and framework for 1:1’s and professional development across the business
  • Work with leaders to facilitate the company objective and goal setting structure and strategy
  • Champion internal communication strategies and drive effective change management strategies
  • Deliver and maintain a compensation philosophy and job level strategy
  • Provide Employer Relations guidance & support to the business
  • Leave and Payroll Reporting
  • Health & Safety
  • Administration of all People processes
  • Source & select the appropriate best in class people technology to provide solutions for the business
  • Manage relationships with providers
  • Provide tech tool training to the business as required
