Position Overview: 

Greater Good Charities is looking for a Director of Humanitarian Response to join our team and oversee humanitarian program efforts. This role will manage strategy, coordination, and implementation of humanitarian programming for communities affected by crisis and conflict. 

This role ensures that our humanitarian response is impactful, equitable, and efficient —aligning with organizational goals, partner capabilities, and the needs on the ground.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Director works across teams and external partners to activate programmatic response, manage logistics, and represent GGC in humanitarian coalitions and networks. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, operational expertise, and deep experience in humanitarian response.

Responsibilities:

  • Humanitarian Programs and Grant Funding: Oversee the development and execution of GGC’s humanitarian program strategy, ensuring timely, coordinated, and ethical results that work towards GGC impact goals.
  • Disaster Response: Manage real-time decision making and mobilization of humanitarian aid, expertise, and funding. Serve as humanitarian response lead during major responses, coordinating across departments and partners.
  • Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate new and manage existing relationships with local and international NGOs, and other stakeholders.
  • Program Oversight: Design, implement, and evaluate programs in areas such as food and supplies, safe housing and shelter, and community engagement.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Lead from the front, working to collaborate with other programs to maximize impact. Foster a culture of safety, resilience, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Preparedness & Capacity Building: Build readiness plans and internal training systems to enhance GGC’s humanitarian response capabilities.
  • Granting & Compliance: Manage to grant budgets as assigned, complying with donor requirements, international humanitarian standards, and relevant regulations.
  • Communications & Reporting: Provide regular updates, impact reporting, and insights to leadership, funders, and the public. Support donor communications during active responses.

Minimum Education/Experience: 

  • 7+ years’ experience in humanitarian assistance, grantmaking, disaster response, or emergency relief—preferably in a leadership capacity.
  • Advanced degree in Emergency Management, International Development, Humanitarian Affairs, or related field preferred. 
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-sector humanitarian programs in complex environments.
  • Strong knowledge of humanitarian principles and NGO response systems.
  • Familiarity with best practices in humanitarian response.
  • Experience working with public-private partnerships and donors, including corporate, foundation, or government funders.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills under pressure.
  • Comfortable working in dynamic environments and willing to travel on short notice.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and collaborative tools like SharePoint, Teams, and project management software.
  • Multilingual abilities a plus (especially Spanish, French, or Arabic).
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.

Working Environment: This position is fully remote. The employee is expected to work 40 hours per week from 9 am – 5 pm in their time zone Monday – Friday. Travel: 25%
