VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION:  DIRECTOR OF ELECTIONS

DURATION: FIVE (5) YEAR RENEWABLE

  1. INTRODUCTION

The vision of the independent Electoral Commission (IEC) is to contribute to the strengthening of a peaceful, stable and prosperous nation through sustainable inclusive democracy.  The Commission works towards the continuous development and improvement of relationships, which create an enabling environment for the promotion and delivery of regular and acceptable elections and referenda, which are timely, participatory and accessible to all.

The IEC seeks the services of a Director of Elections with outstanding vision, strong leadership Skills and ability to provide strategic direction under the supervision and direction of the Commission.

  • REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications (Essential)

A post-graduate degree in Management, (Financial, Public or Business Administration), Political Science or Sociology or related fields.

A PhD would be an added advantage.

Experience (Essential)

Minimum 6 years’ relevant experience leading a similar type of organization, or in Senior Management position.

Experience with initiation or direction and implementation of Strategic Plans.

  • Political awareness complimented by an understanding of private and public sector organizational processes.
    • Established and constructive relationships with business, government and non-state organisations.
    • A proven track record in managing and facilitating complex projects with a range of stakeholders will be an added advantage.

4. Knowledge, skills and abilities Essential:

  • An extensive knowledge of electoral processes, procedures and policies as set out in the constitution and other statutes and acts governing elections.
  • Great performance in duties for a Chief Accounting officer or Chief Executive.
    • Ability to lead, instruct, organize, direct and supervise subordinate staff.
    • Ability to maintain, effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders such as the public, government, political, civic and news media representatives and employees of the Commission.
    • Knowledge of sound organizational, financial and management principles.
    • Production of high-quality reports according to IEC policies and operational requirements.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and across all stakeholder categories.
    • Ability to work in a team and to support the efforts of others.
    • Displays honesty, integrity, high moral and ethical standards.
    • Computer skills are essential.
  • Competencies:
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
      • Ability to develop, articulate and implement strategic goals.
      • Ability to think strategically and creatively; and to solve complex problems.
      • Sound understanding of the social, political and economic environments in Lesotho.
      • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.

Candidates shall undergo a competency assessment test.
