The Commonwealth Secretariat is the principal intergovernmental body of the Commonwealth, responsible for advancing and achieving the shared goals of the association’s 56 member governments in advancing peace, democracy, sustainable development and respect for diversity and human rights.

The Commonwealth Secretariat seeks to appoint a Director for our Human Resources and Facilities Management Division, to support the work of the Commonwealth Secretariat by leading on the development and implementation of effective, responsive and efficient people management strategies, policies, and management information systems that are aligned to organisational needs and best practice.

The Director is responsible for overseeing the full HR function including HR planning; performance management, learning and organisational development, HR Information systems, HR business partnering services, reward management, and employee relations.  The Director promotes a responsive and safe work environment in which employee engagement, growth, development and productivity is optimised.

To be considered, you will have a post-graduate university degree or equivalent in Management, Human Resource Management/Development, Public or Business Administration, or a related area, and you will have professional qualification in Human Resources Management such as CIPD.

You will be required to have at least 15 years in HR management, of which at least 8 years is in a senior HR management role, in an international or governmental organisation. You will need to have a proven track record in advising senior management on Human Resources matters and policy issues. You will be required to have experience of developing and implementing an overarching HR strategy; developing and implementing human resources policies; work force planning; modern proactive recruitment and staffing systems; and leading and delivering organisational change management. You will also be required to have experience of successful practical handling of complex employee relations matters; experience in multicultural and international settings; dealing with Staff Associations or similar styles of employee advocacy bodies; and experience of managing learning and development/organisational development.
