POSITION SUMMARY

The Director, Fundraising and Partnerships for Habitat for Humanity Africa will serve as a strategic leader responsible for raising necessary resources, expanding and diversifying funding sources, and building relevant partnerships across the private sector, government, and multi-sector players to drive systemic change in support of Habitat’s mission in Africa.

The role focuses on major gift prospects, corporates, and donors while cultivating local, national, and regional fundraising opportunities. The position will also provide guidance and support to National Organizations (NOs) and partners to develop and implement effective fundraising strategies in close collaboration with Habitat for Humanity’s global fundraising, advocacy, and communications teams.

The Director will ensure that Habitat for Humanity Africa expands its reach and impact through strategic partnerships, a strong volunteer network, and advocacy for policy reforms aligned with the mission of building homes and communities.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Fundraising and Resource Mobilization

  • Develop and support implementation of a comprehensive fundraising strategy for Habitat for Humanity Africa in collaboration with global fundraising teams (GFOI, individual giving, and global fundraising networks).
  • Identify and engage diverse funding sources, including foundations, governments, corporate partners, major donors, and individual contributors.
  • Support and coordinate development of high-quality fundraising proposals, grant applications, and donor reports for Africa National Offices in collaboration with global fundraising and communications teams.
  • Provide tailored capacity development in proposal writing and support acquisition of grant writers where needed.
  • Maintain and grow relationships with key donors through effective stewardship and recognition.
  • Monitor fundraising performance and collaborate with global teams to close funding gaps and achieve revenue targets.

2. Partnership Engagement and External Representation

  • Develop and support implementation of the Africa Region Advocacy Strategy Framework to influence housing policies and regulations across Africa.
  • Support development and implementation of a Comprehensive Volunteer Engagement Strategy for the Africa region.
  • Build and nurture strategic partnerships with national and international organizations, private sector, development agencies, and government bodies.
  • Develop partnership engagement frameworks supporting local, national, and regional MOUs.
  • Support national and global advocacy campaigns, forums, and policy dialogues.
  • Work with communications teams to ensure effective communication of Habitat Africa’s impact and key messages.

3. Collaboration with Global Fundraising and Communications Teams

  • Ensure alignment and coordination of fundraising efforts with global fundraising teams.
  • Collaborate with communications teams to amplify Habitat Africa messaging and align with global campaigns.

4. Strategic Leadership

  • Collaborate with senior leadership and global fundraising teams to oversee budgets and resources for partnerships, fundraising, and advocacy.
  • Track and report progress on fundraising, partnership, and policy initiatives.
  • Lead, mentor, and support a high-performing resource development and partnerships team.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 15 years of relevant experience OR
  • Master’s degree with at least 10 years of relevant experience in:
    Built Environment Planning, International Development, Project Management, Sustainable Development, or related field.
  • Professional certification in fundraising/resource mobilization, policy, or advocacy is preferred.

YEARS OF RELATED EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 10 years’ progressive experience in fundraising, partnerships, policy advocacy, or related areas.
  • Proven experience developing and executing comprehensive fundraising strategies in global or multi-country settings.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Proven ability to design and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies (Highly Proficient).
  • Experience working with governments, private sector, donors, and grassroots organizations (Proficient).
  • Strong background in managing and growing strategic partnerships (Highly Proficient).
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing teams.
