Through relevant processes of Senate and other groups at the University, UJ Council has supported a major catalytic initiative for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). The Initiative, envisioned by the Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof Tshilidzi Marwala, is to “position UJ in the Fourth Industrial Revolution within the context of the changing social, political and economic fortunes of Africa”.
UJ is keen to interview a dynamic, strategically minded leader, yet also a person who has the ability to develop and operationalise the fundraising strategy of the Division. The person would join a dynamic team, and has a close working relationship and is accountable to the Senior Director: Internationalisation.
Responsibilities:
In particular, the incumbent will:
- Develop and implement a fundraising strategy, policy and guidelines to expand financial resources of the Division;
- Focus mainly on corporate partnerships and resourcing of internationalisation
- Initiate and implement income-generating activities to ensure financial sustainability of the Division.
- Articulate, implement and lead the Division’s fundraising and corporate relations initiatives in accordance with the University’s 2025 strategic goals in support of the Global Excellence and Stature initiatives in order to enhance teaching, research, community engagement and internationalisation;
- Operationally drive the University’s internationalisation processes and procedures;
- Implement effective links with reputable funding agencies such as a DAAD, NUFFIC, EducationUSA, etc;
- Constant engagement with the Department of International Relations and Cooperation for resource mobilisation abroad
- Re-establish funding links with governments abroad and their representatives in South Africa;
- Forge close working relationships and foster collaboration and ensure effective management of interdependencies with internal and external stakeholders regarding internationalisation administrative matters;
- Implement high-quality governance, 4IR-based administration and financial management of the Division, including planning, annual reporting, international fundraising, performance management, transformation initiatives and risk management;
- Implement efficient and effective International Office resource needs; and
- Effectively manage risks associated to the role.
- A relevant Master’s degree and 5 years proven experience in administration and/or Internationalisation and fundraising (resource mibilisation);
- Sound knowledge of, insight into, and vision of the Higher Education sector;
- Significant international relations and management experience and high-level administrative skills, along with the ability to develop and maintain good human relations;
- Significant fundraising portfolio/experience and skills;
- Proven resources management skills with excellent communication and conflict management skills;
- The ability to function under pressure and be responsive;
- Unquestionable professional integrity, stature and abilities.
