The Western Cape Forum for Intellectual Disability (WCFID), a support network for service providers in the field of intellectual disability, seeks to employ a highly motivated and passionate director who will embrace the vision, mission and values of the Forum. Established some 50 years ago, the WCFID started out as a small group of concerned parents and individuals responding to the need for a collaborative approach to provide services. Now, as a formally constituted NGO with a diverse membership of over 200 organisations & individuals, services include training, resource development, community engagement and advocacy (see www.wcfid.co.za).

The WCFID has a team of 9 staff, based in Cape Town. Their programmes focus on the Western Cape, with elements of the work available throughout South Africa and globally.Direct.

Western Cape Forum for Intellectual Disability seeks to appoint Director to be based Cape Town.

Key responsibilities, but not limited to:
Leadership & Management

Provide strategic and operational direction of the WCFID to ensure the activities align with the vision and mission of the organisation
Engage the Board, staff, membership and significant role players to ensure the organisation reaches its programmatic targets
Uphold and model the values and culture of the organisation
Responsible for staff appointments and associated human resource functions
Ensure the development and implementation of the organisation’s strategy to ensure programmes are proactive in the context of an ever-changing landscape
Develop programmes together with Programme Manager, and engage the Board of Management with ongoing feedback on the implementation of the programmes; build Board involvement with internal and external operations
Ensure flexible implementation of the programmes in order to ensure relevance in the current context
Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting
ensure the implementation of an M & E programme
regularly evaluate the programmes by measuring components to ensure excellence and impact
use data provided by the monitoring and evaluation processes to reflect on the quality, outcomes and impact of the organisation’s work and adapt the programme as and when needed to ensure that it remains relevant and strong.

Partnerships, stakeholders and public representation:

Maintain, build and strengthen the WCFID’s reputation, brand and relationships with key stakeholders and members
Represent the organisation and market it to a wide variety of stakeholders, potential colleagues, professionals, and other interested parties
Actively involve and communicate with significant stakeholders, including Board Members, volunteers, members, funders and colleagues.

Governance & Accountability:

Ensure the WCFID Board is operational and complies with the organisation’s Constitution, legislation and best practice as required by the Independent Code of Good Governance
Follow through on Board approvals and recommendations
Ensure good governance in the day to day operations and management of the organisation.

Financial Management:

Oversee the overall financial operations of the organisation.
Ensure the implementation of financial procedures are in line with the financial policies of the organisation.
Oversee the development and approval of the annual budget
Ensure programmes are implemented in line with the approved budget and grant requirements
Ensure that financial and capital resources are efficiently and honestly managed with transparency at every level.

Fundraising and communication:

Run the fundraising program of the organisation, with the support of staff
Ensure that the organisation remains well-funded, financially stable and build sustainability.
Build, nurture and maintain donor relationships
Identify and source new potential donors and income streams
Oversee fundraising targets
Build the organisation’s brand
Work with the communication team to develop a communication strategy, for the management of the website and newsletters, and maintain a presence on social media.

REQUIREMENTS:

Relevant post-graduate qualification, e.g. Social Work, Allied Health Sciences, Education, Development Studies
7 or more years’ experience of working in the non-profit, development or education sectors of which at least 3 to 4 years are in a senior management position, preferably in running an organisation or a large programme.
A knowledge about disability
Solid experience in leading and implementing transformational organisational change and a good track record of leadership that motivates, empowers and is inclusive
Ability to lead a small team with passion and compassion.
Excellent organisational, administrative and planning skills
Strong partner relationship building skills with community service providers, funders, colleagues and governmen.
Strategic financial management experience, including procedures, budget development, analysis and decision making
Fundraising experience and an understanding of the South African donor, corporate social investment and philanthropic landscape
Comfortable with new forms of technology
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work well under pressure
Excellent English language skills and knowledge of other African languages is advantageous
Valid Code B (former code 8) manual driver’s licence with own transport
Working from the offices in Maitland when required
