The Rape Crisis Cape Town Trust is a non profit organisation that promotes an end to violence against women, specifically rape, and assists women in achieving their right to live free from violence by reducing the trauma experienced by rape survivors, encouraging reporting of rape incidents, facilitating the active engagement of communities in challenging high rape rates and advocating for a stronger criminal justice system. Rape Crisis has been supporting and empowering rape survivors in the Western Cape on their journey to recovery and on the road to justice since 1976.

Rape Crisis seeks to appoint a Digital Officer to be based in 23 Trill Road, Observatory, Cape Town.

Remuneration: The salary will be between R11 000 and R13 000 per month as a total cost to company package depending on skills and experience.

The  purpose of the position is to find a person that needs to be able to work from our other two offices in Athlone and Khayelitsha from time to time as well. The Digital Officer under the supervision of the communications coordinator will be responsible for the daily management of the organisation’s digital communications. Rape Crisis is looking for someone to join their communications team. Over the last year their online communications have grown tremendously and they have seen increasing interest in the services they provide as well as interest from donors and people wanting to volunteer. In order to continue to enhance their voice and visibility they need to expand this team.

Responsibilities:
Communications management:
Assist the communications coordinator with implementing the organisation’s communications strategy
Gather content ideas and develop a monthly content plan for all our social media platforms
Develop once off campaigns
Present the monthly content plan and relevant campaign plans for approval to the communications team

Content creation:
Implement the monthly content plan
Edit and collate written and visual content as outlined in the content plan
Implement once off campaigns
Attend and report on ad hoc events

Website and social media management:
Schedule posts to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
Publish information to internal staff WhatsApp and Facebook groups
Manage the social media advertising budget on Ads Manager
Manage the social media community including responding to posts
Publish articles, reports and blogs to website
Research digital media best practice and latest developments
Follow local and international conversations about gender based violence and women’s rights

Analytics and reporting:
Analyse statistics from social media and web
Benchmark and track targets across all platforms and communication environments
Report monthly on performance across all communication environments

Requirements:

The ideal person for this job would be someone who has strong communication skills both verbally and in writing, is able to pay attention to detail and accuracy, manages their time well and meets deadlines, is able to work collaboratively with team members from different disciplines, fields and backgrounds, can accept critical feedback and is willing to adapt and who keeps abreast of the latest developments in the field and applies their technical expertise accordingly. Experience working in the non-profit sector and an interest in gender based violence, women’s rights and social justice environment will be an added advantage.
Requisite Skills:
Matric and communications, marketing, journalism or media studies degree, diploma or relevant PRISA qualification
Two years in a communications or marketing position
Driver’s licence and own car
Strong computer skills including experience with various social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, WordPress, Google Analytics, the Adobe Suite, Canva, Ads Manager, MS Office365 and Hootesuite.
Must be able to write well in English
Proficiency in Afrikaans or isiXhosa also a plus
