JOB PURPOSE

Reporting to the Partnerships, Advocacy and Communications Director the Campaign Manager is responsible for driving, leading, and managing Save the Children South Africa’s advocacy campaigns online and offline. The role will lead our approach to strong, audience focussed public campaign development and supporting children to develop and deliver campaigns.  It will support the development and delivery of the organisational strategy and focus on building priority advocacy focussed campaigns; ensuring consistent delivery of the strategy by leading all campaigning; developing effective campaigning networks and partnerships that advance our campaign goals and build strong public support for our issues of priority.

This is a complex, demanding role that requires excellent strategic judgement; an ability to deliver effective campaigning activity; high-level external representation, network building and extensive public engagement and campaigning experience across a range of child rights focused issues.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and deliver first class campaign strategies and plans that ensure strong public support and income to deliver Save the Children South Africa’s campaigning agenda at a local, regional, and global level.
Lead and support Save the Children thematic areas in their campaigning efforts, inspiring their involvement.
Support and collaborate strongly with Programmes, Communications and Partnerships teams in their content, communications, and digital engagement approaches to campaigns; and with Advocacy colleagues in strategic approaches to influencing change.
Contribute to the leadership of a community of practice for campaigns across the Save the Children International movement.
Build and nurture new and innovative campaigning partnerships and movement building approaches that enable us to amplify our impact for children.
Play a strong external representation role to support with key partners to further the aims of our campaigning.
Bring new and innovative trends and best practise into Save the Children from the wider campaigns and social movement community.
Lead and support reactive campaigning opportunities working in close collaboration with media & communications colleagues, Save the Children members and country offices.
Ensure integration of child campaigning into our priority campaigns.
Support campaign capacity building and training programmes across Save the Children South Africa.
Contributing to effective Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning approaches to campaigning to ensure effective impact for children.
Contribute to the high performance of a strong Partnerships, Advocacy and Communications team.

ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES
Experience of developing and delivering high ambition public campaigning and engagement approaches and strategies.
First class strategist: Proven experience in leading campaign strategy development, planning, delivery and evaluation, and mobilising resources behind its execution.
Excellent, collaborative leadership style and ability – proven campaign leadership at a senior level for at least 5 years, in a global context; ability to lead, convene and inspire in a complex networked organisation across a range of cultures.
Strong, proven experience in movement building campaigns approach, including sparking and nurturing partnerships with external networks / organisations to deliver campaign impact.
First-class high-level project management skills – ability to hold and delivery complex campaign projects under pressure.
First class communication skills: the ability to communicate complex information verbally and in writing in a clear, simple way to wider staff, partners, and campaigns audiences.
Creative flare, with experience of a range of campaigning techniques and approaches; with strong digital literacy in approaches to inspiring change.
A mature understanding of campaign and social movement trends and landscape.
Problem solver: Experience of solving complex issues through analysis, definition of a clear way forward and ensuring buy in; ability to operate and make clear decisions in an environment of some uncertainty.
Willingness and ability to conduct some international travel (once coronavirus restrictions are lifted).
Passion for and ability to work effectively in a diverse setting.
Understanding of and commitment to Save the Children’s values and ways of working.
DESIREABLE COMPETENCIES
Experience of designing and leading campaign training and capacity building programmes.
Strong experience in public engagement and mobilisation through digital approaches and tactics.
Experience of overseeing campaign contributions from a range of functional experts (advocacy, comms etc) including matrix management of staffed in dispersed team.
Lived experience of delivering campaigning in diverse contexts, ideally Africa.
Experience of supporting child or youth campaigning / activism.
