Purpose of the Job

To review funding applications, business plans and rental space applications (appraisals); manage the LNDC’s investment projects portfolio from initial evaluation to implementation and monitoring stages; and perform desk officer duties on LNDC equity portfolio.  The Officer will also perform financial appraisals on DF instruments (Partial Credit Guarantee – PCG; Quasi Equity; Project Preparation Fund – PPF). The incumbent reports to the Development Finance Manager (Projects).

Key responsibilities

The successful candidate will be accountable for the following functions:

  • Perform comprehensive financial due diligence on investment opportunities and rental space applications to ascertain project risk, viability and determine financing needs;
  • Prepare multi-dimensional investment memorandums for presentation to Investment and Allocation Committees;
  • Review and process project agreements;
  • Liaises with PFIs to address questions and concerns about guaranteed loans (PCG).
  • Monitor performance of LNDC’s equity investments and act as desk officer for subsidiaries;
  • Facilitation and participation in preparation of rescue plans for ailing equity companies;
  • Preparation of periodic reports on the status of the portfolio companies;
  • Ensure adherence to LNDC credit and investment policies and procedures;
  • Engage with potential investors and applicants to understand their needs, answer their questions and collect information; originate proposals for DF instruments; and
  • Perform assessments of investment opportunities based on application information and business proposals to identify pipeline of viable projects; and qualifying applications on development finance instruments.

Knowledge, skills and behavioural attributes

  • Experience conducting financial due diligence, including financial statement analysis, cash flow forecasts and trend/ratio analysis.
    • Strong understanding of credit guarantee schemes.
    • Excellent knowledge of credit processes, policies and procedures.
    • Experience in credit and financial analysis experience.
    • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Excel.
    • Strong computer experience

Qualifications and Experience

Degree in Development Finance, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, Statistics or similar field

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in credit management environment or similar environment. A qualification or experience in project management will be an added advantage.
