JOIN OUR TEAM

SOIL is seeking a Development and Communications Associate to provide support to our small development team by: assisting with communicating project activities and outcomes, creating exceptional and brand-aligned design collateral, and supporting on development fundraising projects. DETAILED SCOPE OF WORK

Donor-Centered Communications, Social Media, Photos, and Public Relations Support:

Work to attract new and retain existing donors by amplifying SOIL’s impact through online engagement and external-facing materials: 

  • Support maintenance of the SOIL blog at www.oursoil.org. Activities to include: working with the SOIL team to draft project updates, responding to blog comments as warranted, re-posting media mentions, and overall maintaining an active blog presence with the publication of 3-4 high-quality posts to SOIL blog each month that cover a range of topics relevant to our prospective and current donor base. 
  • Support maintenance of SOIL’s social media presence. Activities to include: curating SOIL’s social media platforms with unique and multi-media content such as blog posts, compelling beneficiary stories, sharable graphics, images, and media mentions, responding to comments and messages as warranted, and overall maintaining an active and engage social media presence that supports the legitimacy of SOIL’s work in the eyes of donors and helps SOIL reach new audiences. 
  • Track indicators for SOIL’s communication engagement (to include socials, newsletters, donation platform review and conversion) in order to expand SOIL’s reach, better understand target donor audience motivations, and achieve individual fundraising goals.
  • Support the management of SOIL photos and quotes. Activities to include: managing photos and quotes submitted by staff, visitors, and professional photographers and ensuring they are properly recorded, archived, and well-organized, identifying additional photo or quote needs and retaining photographers as needed. 
  • Support production of SOIL’s monthly e-newsletter by drafting e-newsletter content and adding blog updates to a newsletter draft by the 10th of each month.
  • Support production of SOIL copy and materials including branded materials to increase awareness of SOIL’s activities among current and potential supporters, collaborators, clients, and beneficiaries as well as presentations, annual reports, or other public relations materials such as brochures or stickers as requested. 
  • Support management of SOIL website. Activities to include but not be limited to: identifying critical improvements needed on the SOIL website and taking direct action to keep the website up-to-date, beautiful, and functioning.

Individual Giving Support: 

  • Respond to donor communications via social media and email, documenting standard responses. Activities to include but not be limited to: creating an FAQ guide to institutionalize SOIL’s language and approach in responding to donor inquiries 
  • Support management of donor records and processing of electronic and snail mail acknowledgements to all donors.
  • Support in management of monthly donation import into NetSuite.
  • Support donor campaigns as requested.
  • Support implementation of major gifts strategy to improve outcomes from donors contributing $500+.
  • Represent SOIL with individual donors on calls and in meetings as requested.
  • Incorporate best practices into SOIL’s approach to prospecting, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual and family foundation gifts.

Miscellaneous Activities to Support the Development Team: 

  • Support the development team with responding to general inquiries, partnership requests, and other emails as requested.
  • Identify and research funding prospects and opportunities.
  • Support grant writing development and deadlines as needed.
  • Weekly check in calls with Development Director and submission of weekly report to the Development Director tracking outcomes, tasks, and coming deadlines.
  • Other activities that may be mutually agreed upon.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 1 year of communications and/or marketing experience OR equivalent education and ability to produce a work sample 
  • Minimum 1 year of graphic design experience OR equivalent education and ability to produce a work sample 
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to tackle and complete assignments on a quick turnaround
  • Energetic and proactive approach to problem solving
  • Ability to work well independently and as member of a remote-based team 
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate and build authentic relationships effectively across barriers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication in English
  • Willingness to learn Haitian Creole 

SUPPLEMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS

  • Knowledge of WordPress and/or HTML
  • Experience with MailChimp
  • Experience with NetSuite or other similar donor databases 
  • Experience working in an international nonprofit setting
  • Experience managing social media
  • Prior knowledge of Haiti and/or issues pertaining to public health, sanitation, or climate change 
  • Fluency in French and/or Haitian Creole

LOCATION: Although this is a remote position, we are looking for candidates who reside within two or three hours of Haiti’s time zone — GMT -4.  A computer will be provided should you need one, but you are expected to have a quiet work environment with a good internet connection. 

HOURS OF WORK: This is a full-time position with a Monday to Friday schedule, with exact hours dependent on time zone. 

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary will be determined based upon experience. SOIL offers a full benefits package (including health insurance, PTO, 401K, professional development)
