PREAMBLE
The Lesotho College of Education (LCE) is a public higher education institution established under the Lesotho College of Education Act 1997 and the Higher Education Act 2004. The main function of the College is to educate and train quality teachers for the education system of Lesotho and for active participation in national and global development.
The College now wishes to appoint an innovative and highly motivated candidate, with exceptional management skills, to fill the position of Deputy Rector – Academic Affairs.

JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Rector, the Deputy Rector – Academic Affairs ensures the development and implementation of academic policies and regulations of the Lesotho College of Education in line with the College’s strategic plan and national policies and regulations.
The incumbent coordinates the physical, human, and financial resources of the College related to academic functions. He or she is in charge of the day‑to‑day administration of academic affairs and provides leadership, guidance, and motivation in overall academic activities, contributing to the management and development of the College.
MAIN DUTIES
The Deputy Rector – Academic Affairs shall:
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the College strategy
- Manage and provide leadership to academic faculties, while monitoring and evaluating the performance of faculties and staff
- Ensure adherence to internal Quality Assurance processes and compliance with external regulatory requirements
- Develop academic policies and regulations for College programmes
- Initiate curriculum development and review to ensure alignment with national policies and emerging issues
- Facilitate and coordinate programme evaluations in consultation with relevant stakeholders
- Promote and coordinate research and related activities at the College
- Initiate development and review of assessment and examination regulations and guidelines
- Establish academic linkages with other institutions locally and internationally
- Develop strategic plans for academic departments in line with the overall College strategic plan

Applicants must demonstrate:
- Excellent leadership and management skills
- Strong critical and analytical thinking skills
- Sound planning, organisational, and decision‑making skills
- Experience in staff supervision, team building, and collaboration
- Innovation and creativity in developing long‑term academic and administrative policies
- Demonstrated research and consultancy skills
- Ability to write proposals for resource mobilisation
- Ability to communicate effectively in Sesotho and English, both orally and in writing, and produce clear, timely reports
- Strong negotiation, mediation, and arbitration skills
- Evidence of ethical and professional behaviour
- Excellent knowledge and experience in strategic planning
- Strong understanding of governance of higher education institutions
- Awareness of national education policies and quality assurance requirements
Added advantages include skills or experience in:
- Academic publishing
- Consultancy
- Programme design
- Teaching at a tertiary institution
- Managerial experience at a tertiary institution
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education
- A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Educational Management and Administration, or another relevant field aligned to the job requirements
- A PhD will be an added advantage
Experience
- PhD holders: Minimum of three (3) years’ supervisory and administrative experience in a tertiary or related institution
- Master’s degree holders: Minimum of five (5) years’ supervisory and administrative experience in a tertiary or related institution
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Applicants must not be above 60 years of age
