Lesotho College of Education (LCE) is a public higher education institution established under the Lesotho College of Education Act of 1997 and the Higher Education Act of 2004. The main function of the College is to educate and train quality teachers for the education system of Lesotho and for active participation in national and global development.

The  Lesotho College of Education (LCE) invites  applications from  suitably qualified
candidates for the following positions at Maseru campus. Interested persons may access

Position: Deputy Rector Academic Affairs (DRAA) – (1)

 

Duration

Four (4) years renewable contract based on satisfactory performance.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Rector, the Deputy Rector Academic affairs ensures development and implementation of academic policies and regulations of the Lesotho College of Education in line with its strategic plan and national policies and regulations, and the coordination of the physical, human and financial resources of the College. He/She is in charge of the day to day administration of academic affairs and provides leadership, guidance and motivation in the overall academic activities and contributes to the management and development of the Institution.

 

Main duties/ Key responsibilities

a) Contribute to the creation and management of the College strategy and strategic activities.

b) Monitors and evaluates a performance management system.

c) Assure adherence to internal Quality Assurance processes and compliance with external regulatory requirements.

d) Develops academic policies and regulations for College programmes.

e) Initiates curriculum development and review to ensure alignment with National policies and relevant emerging issues.

f) Facilitates and coordinates evaluation of programmes in consultation with all relevant stakeholders.

g) Promotes and coordinates research and related activities at the College.

h) Initiates development and review of assessment and examination regulation and guidelines.

i) Coordinates academic staff development and promotion.

j) Manages and provides leadership to academic faculties, and monitors and evaluates performance of academic faculties and staff.

k) Establishes academic links with other institutions locally and internationally.

l) Develops plans for academic departments in line with the College strategic plan.

m) Works in consultation with the College Librarian to contribute to the growth and development of the College Library.

  • Must have an ability to write proposals for resources mobilization.
  • Must have good interpersonal, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Must have an ability to effectively communicate in Sesotho and English both orally and in writing, and be able to produce clear and effective reports on time.
  • Must have good negotiation, mediation and arbitration skills.
  • Must be able to show evidence of ethical and professional behaviour.
  • Must have an excellent knowledge and experience of strategic planning.
  • Must have an excellent knowledge and understanding of governance of higher education institutions.
  • Must have understanding and awareness of national educational policies and quality assurance issues and regulations.

 

Skills in the following areas will be an added advantage:

  •  Academic publishing.
  • Consultancy
  • Programme design
  • Teaching experience in a tertiary institution.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a PhD or Masters Degree in Educational Management and Administration or any other related field relevant to the job requirements:

Experience

  • PhD holders: five (5) years of supervisory and administrative experience in a        tertiary or related institution/organization.
  • Master’s Degree holders: Eight (8) years of supervisory and administrative experience in a tertiary or related institution/organization.
