JOB TITLE: Deputy Inspector of Police

Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Inspector of Police, the incumbent is responsible for conducting general inspections of key policing areas, monitoring the implementation of policing objectives, and supervision of staff.
Main Duties
1. Conducting General Inspections of Key Policing Areas
1.1 Holds periodic meetings in order to facilitate reporting
1.2 Verifies authenticity of inspection reports
1.3 Recommends on inspection findings to ensure improvement where weaknesses are identified
1.4 Submits written reports periodically to the Inspector of Police for consideration
2. Monitoring the Implementation of Policing Objectives
2.1 Checks on the performance of the LMPS to ensure that they meet locally set objectives
2.2 Advises Regional Police Management on the formulation of policing proposals to ensure that local agenda is kept in focus
2.3 Monitors the progress made by Police management to ensure that the provisions of the law are adhered to
2.4 Acts as an agent of change to enhance effectiveness and efficiency in the LMPS
2.5 Provides professional advice and support to ensure uniformity, efficiency and effectiveness under the area of inspection
3. Supervision of Staff
3.1 Approves work plans to ensure that they are in line with Ministerial priorities and objectives
3.2 Guides staff in execution of duties in order to enhance proper implementation of policing objectives
3.3 Appraises staff to assess performance
Job Specification
Education and Training
- Master’s degree in Social Sciences with three (3) years’ experience in the ranks of Inspector and above in the LMPS or must have held a middle managerial position for three (3) years in matters relating to policing
OR - B.A. Social Sciences with five (5) years working experience in the ranks of Inspector and above in the LMPS or must have held a middle managerial position for five (5) years in matters relating to policing
Additional Requirements:
- Must have knowledge in all legal and policy issues and reform changes within the LMPS
- Must have knowledge of all the operational and management processes in the LMPS
