JOB SUMMARY

The Deputy Director assists the Director in the general direction, administration and control of all the activities of the Unit and for supervision of the staff. The Deputy Director is responsible for the following specific duties:

MAIN DUTIES

(a)  Authorization of the Unit’s expenditure through signing of purchase/service orders, payment vouchers and cheques.

(b) Authorization of requisition for transport directly hired by the Unit for movement of food stuffs and personnel.

(c)   Approval of transport requisitions for journeys outside Maseru.

(d) Verification of transporters’ claims, invoices and countersignature of payment vouchers.

(e) Assists in the general liaison and coordination with Ministries and Departments concerned with food aided projects and programmes and early warning/food security activities; local representatives of donor agencies concerning the implementation of projects and programmes; the Food and Nutrition Coordination Office and the National Disaster Committee etc.

(f)  Monitoring the sale and purchase, for recycling, of food reserves as required.

(g)    Direct supervision of all Heads of Divisions.

(h)  Assists in monitoring progress of food security/food aided projects and programmes and ensuring that they are correctly implemented and accounted for by all concerned.

(i)   Deputizing for the Director.

JOB SPECIFICATION

Masters Degree in Social Sciences or other related field with two (2) years’ experience in a Senior Administrative position. Experience in the particular specialized technique and procedures required for donated food supplies will be a great advantage.

OR

Honours Degree in Social Sciences or other related field with four (4) years’ experience in a Senior Administrative position. Experience in the particular specialized technique and procedures required for donated food supplies will be a great advantage.

OR

Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences or other related field with five (5) years’ experience in a Senior Administrative position. Experience in the particular specialized technique and procedures required for donated food supplies will be a great advantage.
