DEPUTY DIRECTOR, GRADE I (M261 108 – M307 860 P/A) LESOTHO DISTANCE TEACHING CENTRE (LDTC)
Job summary:
Under the supervision of the Director, the incumbent plans, coordinates, advises, liaises, supervises and consults for the development of quality study materials. The incumbent is also responsible for the efficient and effective administration of materials development section/unit.
Main duties:
1) Plans the design of ODL courses to respond to learner’s needs.
Facilitates learners’ needs assessment study and analysis
Meets with editors and course writers to develop course outlines, units and titles of the courses.
Leads decision making and sets a production schedule
2) Facilitates engagement and training of part-time editors and
part-time writers for development of quality ODL materials.
Drafts job descriptions and specifications for suitable candidates.
Prepares job contracts for both part-time editors and part- time writers.
Verifies completion of duties assigned to part-time editors and part-time writers and recommends payment.
Signs -off materials for printing.
Liaises with manager learner support for training of part-time writers and part-time editors.
3) Directs revision of ODL courses to update content, presentation and curricular changes.
Examines research and evaluation reports and other ODL eports to implement the recommendations.
Initiates inclusion of emerging issues (HIV and AIDS, human rights, etc.)
Advises course editors on issues pertaining to revision of ODL materials e.g. phasing out of old courses, introduction of new courses in collaboration with educational partners like EcoL and NCDC.
4) Coordination of activities of the section/unit to enhance quality assurance in development of ODL courses
Conducts meetings with (MD) sectional staff and other ODL stakeholders to discuss specified standards of ODL.
In consultation with DD-academic attends local, regional and international conferences, seminars and meetings relating to materials development.
5) Supervision of academic staff for quality delivery of services
o Assesses and approves editors’ individual work plans.
o Appraises editors to determine performance.
o Draws and monitors the sectional budget.
Job specification
Master’s in Education plus 2 years teaching experience.
Or
Degree in Education plus 5 years working experience at managerial level with Educational institutions
