PSI seeks a seasoned VMMC Demand Generation and SBC Advisor help us design, roll-out and implement communication and demand generation strategies to promote increased uptake of VMMC among males aged 15-29. PSI South Africa is expected to expand availability and accessibility of VMMC services, ensure their quality, and increase demand for VMMC within the targeted age group. Implementation will also strengthen linkages between VMMC and other relevant HIV, health, and social services.

The VMMC Demand Generation and SBC Advisor will lead the design, roll-out, and day-to-day management and implementation of communication and demand generation strategies and interventions to promote increased uptake of VMMC. S/he shall have depth and breadth of technical expertise and experience in designing and implementing comprehensive health communication interventions, and related capacity strengthening.

Responsibilities

Your contributions

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the demand creation and mobilisation activities and strategy, including possibly leading development and implementation of discrete new workstreams.
  • Lead development and implementation of demand creation and communication workplans in collaboration with programme management team.
  • Support report writing and development of technical guidance.
  • Design new interventions, roll-out and implement communication and demand generation and IPC strategies to promote increased uptake of VMMC among target age groups.
  • Prototyping and pilot testing of new IPC and demand creation interventions.
  • Work closely with the clinical team leaders to ensure optimal coordination/balance between demand and supply.
  • Coordinate and supervise the development and implementation of micro plans for demand creation at district level.
  • Document best practices/lessons learned in implementing VMMC Demand Generation initiatives.
  • Maintain regular communications with NDOH and other partners to strengthen Quality Improvement processes.
  • Oversee a team of demand creation coordinators at province and district level to implement SBC, interpersonal communication, mobilisation, and demand generation interventions.
  • Programme Management: Provide inputs into development of budget by project’s programme management team.
  • Representation: Represent the VMMC demand creation department internally and externally.
  • Thought Leadership / Knowledge Management: Contribute to the development and implementation of the project’s thought leadership and knowledge management agenda, including the development and internal and external dissemination of technical and programmatic briefs, webinars, reports, and manuscripts. Qualifications

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Demonstrated 10 years of experience in working in Southern Africa region with progressively increasing responsibility designing, implementing, and assessing large scale health communication programmes.
  • Deep expertise in evidence-driven, theory-based, behavioural HIV prevention interventions experience with VMMC related behaviour change and demand creation desired.
  • Familiarity with innovative, interdisciplinary approaches such as human-centred design and behavioural economics for increasing demand for and use of health products and services.
  • Prior experience with building community competency to improve health, and participatory methodologies for engaging beneficiaries in planning and implementing local-level activities.
  • Experience in building local technical capacity in demand creation.
  • Prior experience working with any PEPFAR project and in the demand creation section for a service delivery team.
  • Strong facilitation, training, monitoring and capacity building skills.
  • Ability to provide technical assistance to PSI network with minimal support.
  • Ability to share knowledge internally and externally with communities of practice.
  • Ability to produce technical products and tools with minimal oversight and direction.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with internal and external Able to work as a member of a team and independently.
  • Self-starter and demonstrate flexibility and adaptability.
  • Demonstrate emotional intelligence and ability to collaborate with colleagues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Familiarity with a quantitative or qualitative data analysis programme preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and Proficiency in a relevant language in addition to English preferred.
