Our international team provides trading, sales, structuring and risk management solutions for our clients across global financial markets. This includes FX, commodities, equity, credit, fixed income and debt instruments. We also offer market insight, trading services, analytics and new financial products across a number of asset classes.

Job Purpose

Control and coordinate the bank’s foreign currency spot and forward positions created by sales and purchases to and from interbank, branches and clients profitably and within agreed dealers’ authorisation mandates & limits.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Need to keep up to date with current global developments, including economical & political In-depth knowledge of Dealing Systems and functions
  • Up to date knowledge of Treasury and Forex Products
  • Accurate deal capture
  • Daily, weekly, and monthly reports
  • Achieve turnover and profit targets aligned to the overall Global Markets objective Self-development and keeping up to date with latest market developments and technology
  • Properly manage positions created by customers and branches
  • Anticipate and be alert to market related activities and changes
  • Base decisions on short term and long terni implications
  • Act promptly to resolve problems that may arise Monitor margins on Retail Fore rates for branches
  • Monitor movement and exchange risk on foreign note holdings
  • Maximise customer forex turnover by quoting competitive rates on a consistent basis
  • Maximise revenue from clients business without taking on market risk.
  • On an ongoing basis counsel customers on various methods of hedging their forex exposures and informing them on market movements
  • Improve the Banks relationship with customers whenever the opportunity presents itself i.e. non-forex nature
  • Follow the prescribed procedures when dealing and adhere to the ACI code of conduct
  • Mantain good working relationship with staff and ensure the clients needs are met
  • Maximise profit for shareholders
  • Continuous contact with the interbank market – in-country as well as with the Stanbic network
  • Business development and networking, internally and externally
  • Prompt response to information requests from both external sources as well as Standard Bank / Stanbic Global Markets
  • Any other duties assigned from time to time, including but not limited to Money Market & Fixed Income Dealing, and Sales when needed

Preferred Qualification and Experience

  • At least Degree in BCom/Economics/BSc
  • 3 years’ experience in foreign exchange trading/dealing
  • Treasury experience in the fields of:
  • Spot foreign exchange
    • Forward foreign exchange
    • Deposits/arbitrage
    • Derivatives (Not a pre requisite)
  • Market ethics according to the Act code of conduct.
  • Treasury and Banking background

Knowledge/Technical Skills/Expertise

  • Computer literacy
  • Understand the principles and practice of foreign exchange products and markets and an intermediate understanding of other treasury products.
  • Understanding the basics of Exchange Control
  • Marketing techniques i.e, how to win the confidence of the client.
