Daytime Online Professional Tutor (Part-Time)

Revolution Prep is looking for teachers and tutors to join our online faculty. We look for educators who believe in the value of one-on-one instruction and personalized lesson plans and who have a strong desire to help students achieve their educational dreams.

Over the last 16 years, Revolution Prep has worked with over 1 million students to raise grades and test scores and build stronger, more confident learners. As a faculty member, you will provide individual instruction and mentorship to students in grades 6-12 from all over the world through our online classroom.

Our part-time faculty members work from home and set their own schedule; they provide 28 hours of availability per week with a goal of averaging at least 20 hours of instruction per week. Tutors provide 28 hours availability within our peak tutoring hours:

  • Sundays: 5AM-4PM PST
  • Mondays- Fridays: 6AM-3PM PST
  • Saturdays: 5AM-4PM PST

In addition to teaching students, you will join an educational community of like-minded peers and participate in weekly small group meetings to learn and share best practices.

  • Deliver exceptional instruction one-on-one and in small groups between 6-10 hours a day from a computer
  • Create individualized lesson plans for private tutoring students (Grades 6-12) on a variety of subjects, including SAT and ACT exam prep, using Revolution’s curricula and additional resources
  • Manage the schedules and goals of several students simultaneously
  • Submit comprehensive session and student goal video updates to parents each week
  • Attend biweekly online professional development meetings to collaborate, learn new techniques, and share best practices for organization/tutoring/mentorship with other faculty members
  • Commit to the constant pursuit of improvement through professional development, self and peer auditing, and feedback from semi-annual reviews
  • Develop and grow as a holistic mentor to your students, providing clear and specific recommendations for additional work that students should undertake to achieve their goals
  • Contribute to initiatives of the instruction team including development of new curriculum
  • Represent Revolution Prep with the highest level of professionalism at all times
  • Applicants with expertise in science (chemistry, physics, and biology up to AP level), college level micro/macroeconomics, LSAT, higher-level math (algebra II, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus AB/BC, stats), and languages (Spanish and/or French) strongly preferred

    • Note:
      All Revolution Prep tutors are expected to provide test prep tutoring, in addition to the academic subjects in which they specialize. We train our tutors to teach all sections (English, Reading/Writing, Math, Science) of the SAT and ACT as a foundation for the role. It is expected that tutors will be proficient in all sections of these exams in order to provide students with strong guidance and expertise.
  • Previous teaching experience and familiarity with the creation of lesson plans
  • Previous experience teaching SAT/ACT test prep is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree from a top school required, advanced degree preferred
  • High-speed internet, as well as a clean, quiet, professional setting for online sessions
  • Ability to teach consecutive online tutoring sessions while sitting or standing for extended periods of time, five to six days per week
  • Ability to work during peak tutoring hours during the week
  • Ability to work on the weekends (all Revolution Prep daytime online professional tutors are required to be available for at least 6 hours worth of tutoring on Sundays or Saturdays)
  • Ability to commit to full-time employment at least through August 2020
  • Embodies a “growth mindset” (unafraid of challenges; adaptable to change; willingness to learn)
  • Authorized to work in the United States (current residence must also be in the US)

    Professional Tutor New-Hire Training (choose ONE option – rounds 1-5)


    • Round 1 (CLOSED): Monday, March 23, 2020 – Thursday, March 26, 2020 from 9am-3:30pm PST

    • Round 2: Saturday, March 28, 2020 – Sunday, March 29, 2020 from 9am-6pm PST

    • Round 3: Monday, March 30, 2020 – Thursday, April 2, 2020 from 9am-3:30pm PST

    • Round 4: Saturday, April 4, 2020 – Sunday, April 5, 2020 from 9am-6pm PST

    • Round 5: Monday, April 6, 2020 – Thursday, April 9, 2020 from 9am-3:30pm PST

To be successful in the online Professional Tutor role, your computer must meet the minimum requirements listed below:

  • A Mac/PC desktop or laptop
    • Mac users: Mac OS X Snow Leopard (version 10.6) or later
    • PC users: Windows 8.1 or later
  • High-speed internet with strong and reliable reception/service
  • Speakers and a microphone (built-in, USB plug-in, or wireless Bluetooth)
  • A webcam or HD webcam (built-in or USB plug-in)
  • 4GB or more of available memory/RAM

Within their first year, our tutors earn between $25 to $30 per hour (depending on subject coverage and level of experience) and are eligible for bonuses after working with the company for at least 6 months. Professional tutors are Revolution Prep employees and are paid for every hour worked, are eligible for full benefits, and work from the comfort of their own homes. In addition to providing an accessible platform for passionate educators to make an impact on the lives of students, we invest in the ongoing professional development of our tutors with extensive training in online instruction, student mentorship, and test prep strategies.
