You will be part of the Technology Team. Our meetings are filled with sarcasm, laughter, and movie quotes. Though we are virtual, we communicate a lot and have a tight-knit group. ABOUT THE POSITION

We are seeking an experienced and engaged DATABASE DEVELOPER who is motivated, creative, and fun to support the data needs of our growing company. You will work closely with our Development and DevOps teams to optimize our existing data structures, advise on best practices for future structures, develop ground up reporting systems, and ensure our data is secured and our databases are always performing optimally. You will be expected to drive key strategic decisions around our data and reporting.

  • Must be located in the U.S. and be legally eligible to work for us
  • Travel is required for an annual company meeting, and may be required once or twice per year for team or project meetings
  • Occasional after hours support/on-call rotation
  • Work closely with Technology Leadership team to set and execute technology vision

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administer multiple MySQL Database clusters (backups, maintenance plans, recovery planning/testing, optimizations)
  • Collaborating with Project Management, ensure all development work is properly scoped for effective planning of work/timelines
  • Work, integrated with Dev team, on evolving structure of our databases as we move from monolithic application and data structures to modular systems and data
  • Perform ETL’s as we migrate data from one system to another
  • Work with Dev teams to ensure complex queries and reports are optimized for scale
  • Be our advocate for clean data – find instances of bad data, their cause, and path to resolution
  • Work with Tech Operations on ensuring the security of our databases and data
  • Collaborate with Marketing Analysts to support business reporting using Domo and ensure production data structure changes are accounted for within our BI
  • In the long-term, evaluate and develop strategy around data warehouse, data marts, and/or data lakes, as needed

REQUIREMENTS

Self-management and time management are critical in this role. Without it, you will not be successful. Other requirements include:

  • A verbal and written communication pro – must be able to explain technical issues to a non-technical person, pleasantly
  • 7+ years of strong Database experience: administering, monitoring and developing (MySQL preferred)
  • A proven record of making and driving technical decisions
  • Strong experience optimizing complex queries and reports in a scaling environment
  • Strong understanding of database security best-practices and understanding of how to implement
  • Eager to research and learn in a self-directed way (always improving)
  • Structured, disciplined approach to development, testing and deployment
  • Highly-attentive to details, able to cross all the t’s and dot all the i’s and help review/fix issues with others’ SQL queries
  • There is direct project oversight, but you are expected to take ownership of your work and your projects, establish deadlines, and communicate progress proactively
  • Experience working with remote teams
  • Strong self-management skills, capable of thriving in a virtual work environment

Preferred, But Not Required

  • Experience migrating from legacy monolithic applications to modular systems
  • Experience working in a traditional LAMP environment
  • Experience working with/supporting Domo and Domo integrations
