Applications are invited from suitably qualified local candidates for the following vacant positions tenable in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition.
Position Title: Database Administrator
Ministry: Agriculture, Food Security & Nutrition
Department: Administration
Grade: H
Number of Positions: One (1)
Responsible To: ICT Application Systems Manager
Location: Maseru
Main Purpose of the Job
To maintain and regularly update the accuracy and integrity of institutional data. The Database Administrator is also responsible for creating and managing the Ministry’s database systems.
Key Functions
- Provide efficient database design and implementation
- Maintain central database structures and administer access rights
- Advise on centralized and distributed database usage
- Ensure integrity and protection of database systems
- Provide technical guidelines and assistance to staff and stakeholders
- Establish and maintain backup and recovery policies and procedures
- Create physical database storage structures for new applications
- Administer database-management software and related utilities
- Install, configure, and upgrade database software and related products
- Log Technical Action Reports (TARs) and apply patches
- Monitor and optimize database performance
- Set guidelines for full vs. incremental image copy backups
Job Specification
Education and Experience Requirements:
Option 1:
- Master’s Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience at systems support level in Lesotho Government or equivalent reputable organization
Option 2:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science from a recognized institution
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience, with at least 2 years at systems support level in Lesotho Government or equivalent reputable organization
Note:
Certification in database administration or a related field is an added advantage.
