OnePower Lesotho is seeking a Data Engineer to design, build and maintain company’s data infrastructure, including databases and data warehouses. OnePower Lesotho, a startup Independent Power Producer (IPP), has been selected as the preferred developer of a 20MW solar PV power plant in Lesotho (the first in the country). In addition to on-grid solar OnePower was incorporated with a mission to develop bankable pay as you go (PAYG) solar mini-grids for community electrification and is currently in the piloting stage in Lesotho.

Main Purpose of the job:

Design, build and maintain a company’s data infrastructure, including databases and data warehouses, to ensure accurate and timely data access for analysis by collecting, processing, and transforming raw data into usable information for analysis, requiring a deeper understanding of data systems and proficiency in coding to create efficient data pipelines and security.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design and optimize data engineering solutions to handle demanding performance, rapid scaling, and security requirements.
  • Compose monthly and quarterly reports on system performance for investors and other key stakeholders
  • Automate collection of data and population of report templates to generate reports efficiently and at scale.
  • Create data/ML driven solutions serving personalized experiences at OnePower
  • Translate business and analytics requirements to adhere to the organization’s data strategy including ETL, data models, aggregations and reports for analysis.
  • Routine monitoring of asset performance vis SCADA
  • Log activities/open close tickets for corrective maintenance and customer services
  • Keep record of all stock and supplies, including company’s electrical equipment. (O&M inventory management)
  • Updating documentation of standard operating procedures and generating performance reports
  • Clear communication: adaptability to meet needs at active construction sites and projects development timelines
  • Assisting with field survey and site work as needed Computer applications include web search, webmail. office suite (word processing and spreadsheets) cloud-based storage and retrieval (Dropbox), workflow management tools including Microsoft To Do List, WhatsApp, Calendar and Clockify.

Required skills and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field preferred
  • 3-5 years’ work experience demonstrating deep experience in relevant work
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Sesotho
  • Strong skills using Microsoft Office (data processing, word processing, presentations)
  • Strong coding skills using Python, Java, and/or C++
  • Driver’s license and experience driving for 2+ years
