The Ministry of Health invites applications from suitable candidates for the following position;

Data Clerk x 2 – For Mokhotlong and Mohale’s Hoek districts.

Under the general supervision of Laboratory Technologist, the Data Clerks will institute laboratory safety measures, receive specimens in line with set Laboratory standards, capture Laboratory data in line with prescribed formats and Laboratory Information System (LIS), compile monthly statistics and maintain all laboratory records in good order.

  1. Institute Laboratory Safety measures
  2. Adhere to laboratory specific safety precautions
  3. Daily cleans, disinfect working environment and update logs
  4. Daily monitors environmental temperatures
  5. Dispose off completed samples according to guidelines
  • Receive specimens in line with set laboratory standards
  • Daily receive samples and match with request form
  • Daily monitors quality of sample according to specimen rejection criteria
  • Document samples rejected according to set guidelines
  • Capture Laboratory data in line with prescribed formats and LIS
  • Daily record patient demographics and requested Laboratory tests in LIS
  • Daily files patient records
  • Daily dispatches patient/client results
  • Compile Laboratory statistics
  • Monthly compile statistics
  • Weekly compile specimen rejected and submit to Laboratory Head
  • Weekly compile sample backlog statistics
  • Maintain all Laboratory records in good order
  • Weekly verify request forms with authorized results
  • Weekly compile and store request form according to guidelines
  • Weekly shred and dispose off end-of-life request forms
  • Monthly compile environmental check logs for review by Laboratory Head

Qualifications and Requirements;

The data clerk should have a strong background of numeracy, data management and analysis of data, including experience in using excel.  Preferred qualities include a familiarity with the health data management.

  • Diploma in Statistics/Demography or any other relevant field plus a minimum of 2 years experience in data management

                                    OR

  • Degree in Statistics and Demography  plus a minimum of 1 year experience in data management
  • Work experience supporting health data collection, processing and analysis
  • Ability to work under pressure and be able to organize tasks
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Excel & Microsoft Work
  • Good time management skills
