Reports to Chief Executive Officer

The incumbent will undertake the following tasks:

– In collaboration with the department of Livestock services and other relevant stakeholders, initiate, develop and implement appropriate strategies and programs for the development of the Dairy industry in Lesotho

– Manage collection, analysis, and dissemination of information pertaining to the performance of the dairy industry in regard to milk production

– Create, manage and maintain the Lesotho Dairy Board database

– Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of dairy industry development, promotion, and information dissemination strategies and programmes

– Design and implement short-term training programs for existing and potential dairy farmers.

– Develop and implement programs aimed at improving genetic potential of dairy cattle herds in collaboration with dairy farmers and other relevant stakeholders

– Evaluate the potential of goat’s milk production with the purpose of increasing goat milk in the Country.

– To ensure timely procurement of animal feeds and other items such as milking equipment and vet drugs necessary to support dairy farmers.

– To supervise and provide on-the-job training to dairy technicians and temporary staff placed in the Dairy Development Department

– To partake in LDB’s strategic plan development from which he/she will develop and implement operational plans for the Dairy Development

– To promote local production and preservation of fodder.

– To perform any other duties that may be assigned which are necessary for the LNDB to carry out its mandate.

Qualifications and Experience

– Masters Degree in Animal Production (Large Livestock) or Masters in Animal Health or Masters in Agricultural Economics with strong animal Science background and 3 years of relevant experience

OR

– Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science with at least 5 years of relevant experience

The following shall be an added advantage:

– Strong background in cows or dairy artificial insemination

– Academic Publication

– Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA)

Necessary attributes

– Ability to conduct research independently and excellent communication skills

– Ability to work under pressure

– Ability to lead and build teams
