Position: Curriculum Development Consultant for the Certificate in Nursing Assistant Programme

Institutions: Paray School of Nursing and Scott College of Nursing

Location: Lesotho

Duration: 4 to 6 months

Background: Paray School of Nursing and Scott College of Nursing are Nurse Education Training Institutions that are committed to excellence in nursing education. The institutions recognise the need to evolve and enhance the Certificate in Nursing Assistant to meet the changing landscape of higher education, the health sciences and nursing education. We are seeking a Curriculum Development Consultant to lead the review and re-development of the Certificate in Nursing Assistant Programme.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a comprehensive situational analysis of the current Certificate in Nursing Assistant programme, considering developments from 2013 to 2023 and stakeholder inputs.
  • Collaborate with a technical task team to identify and develop thematic areas for the macrocurriculum, aligning with the Lesotho Qualification Framework and Council on Higher Education programme accreditation standards and the Lesotho Nursing Council’s Scope of Practice.
  • Work closely with a technical task team to design the meso-curriculum using theme development tools for effective implementation.
  • Facilitate workshops for teaching staff on the development of workbooks/study guides, logbooks, and checklists.
  • Integrate contemporary teaching approaches, including e-learning, simulation methodologies, competency-based and community-based approaches into the curriculum.
  • Ensure the 12-month duration and the 3-month internship programme are optimised for student learning and nursing practice relevance.
  • Attend to National and international validation of the curriculum (national and international comparability issues)
  • Execute the curriculum re-development within a 4 to 6 months timeframe.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in nursing education/ health sciences education
  • Proven track record in nursing curriculum development with a focus on competency-based approaches.
  • In-depth understanding of National Qualifications Frameworks and programme accreditation processes.
  • Experience in conducting situational analysis and development of curriculum in line with stakeholder needs.
  • Expertise and experience in contemporary teaching methods, including e-learning, simulation etc.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills.

  • Macro-curriculum thematic areas document that identifies the broad competencies and learning outcomes for the Certificate in Nursing Assistant programme
  • Meso-curriculum theme development tools
  • Teaching staff workshop development materials
  • Comparability reports
  • Feedback and iteration reports
  • Curriculum implementation plan and curriculum map
  • Monitoring, implementation and reporting plan for the newly developed curriculum.
  • Final curriculum documentation
